Why am I seeing Jerry Brown ads on DU?
I'm seeing tons of Meg Whitman is George Bush ads here. I'm in marketing and advertising - I say that very conservatively, 90% or more of the people here will not vote for Meg Whitman.

I am so sorry MODS & DU bookkeepers, but wouldn't the Brown campaign be better served not preaching to the choir?

My apologies to all if the ads are being run complimentary. If not, Brown campaign, go to a place where there are undecideds, moderates, independents, etc.

We are going to need those votes, these votes here, you got em....

2. *sigh*
I shake my head because you're in marketing and advertising, and I guess employed, which I guess means making a good income...

and don't know why those ads are here; or why it's a really good idea for them to be here.

And I remain broke. lol.

Have a good one.

6. I missed the sarcasm drip...
I'll type slooowwlllyy. If the money you have to spend is finite to elect Jerry Brown, why spend it in a place (DU) where just about everyone will vote for Jerry Brown? You are spending money in a place where just about no one is going to change their mind.

BTWA, I was unemployed for long time, my sympathies.

He would just be "preaching to the choir" around here.

His money would be better spent in more "neutral" places. Or save that money to be used for radio or TV ads.

10. This is not my gig, but in general, ads on websites are
generated by a sort of service, not sold specifically. That is, 'google ads' or something is putting that ad there, based on website content, as part of some form of ad space deal. Jerry would not be sending checks to DU, particularly because likely donors to Jerry would be donors to DU, and thus not see the ads at all.

12. You are partly correct,
Edited on Tue Jul-13-10 07:11 PM by MyUncle
there are a lot of instructions that can be given to the ad placement robots and humans that specify what sites ads should be placed on.

All I want is for the Brown campaign to spend in the right places.

14. Liberal web site need financial support
Those ads, either googleads or blogads, go a LONG way to supporting liberal sites, especially the lesser sites that don't really get much other support. Makes them feel all warm and cuddly, and grateful, and likely to put up an actblue ad which will get the campaign back more money than they spend on blogads. For just one out of about 100 reasons it's a very good idea.

And I'm self-employed, although nobody ever listens to any advise I have because I'm not 25 and hawt.

23. Familiarize yourself with Google AdWords
It's a keyword/keyphrase-based system and probably Google's least expensive advertising option. Mr. Brown is, as usual, spending his money wisely.

13. Yes, networks while inexpensive are very broad,
if you have someone who is really paying attention, you can keep the price per ad or CPM the same but really focus in on where you can change hearts and minds. It's very detailed but the Brown campaign does not have Whitman's mega bucks. The have to be better.

I jest.

Just spinning off the details provided in your question.

Nobody on DU is going to vote for Meg Whitman.

Nobody.

28. Those ads are from general ad generator sites like GoogleAds and DoubleClick.
So, they get shown to hundreds of sites.

It's not like the Brown campaign is specifically targeting DU.

30. And it may not cost the campaign any more money
What is the Google Network?
The Google Network is a large group of websites and other products, such as email programs and blogs, who have partnered with Google to display AdWords ads. Advertisers have the option of running their ads on Google as well as the Google Network for no extra cost.
