Ed, for fucks sake. You're on a NEWS channel
Leave that $teinbrenner bullshit to ESPN. The bastard ruined major league baseball, and MAYBE now it just might recover.

Fuck, now Keith's gonna dwell on this shit too?

1. Keith is an old sports caster
and believe it or not it is a news story. And Ed did it at the end of the broadcast and I hope Keith has it at the bottom too, aka where it belongs.

29. It was at the end, at which point, I got up and went to wash my
face, take out my contacts and put on my moisturizer.

I couldn't give two flips about Stein-whats-his-doogie.

8. The Yankees always had the most money...
Hence the best players. Note how Eli Broad was "not allowed" to acquire the Dodgers for this very reason, but no one had the cajones to stand up to Mr. S.

10. So it's his fault they wouldn't stand up to him
He is one owner among the 30
The other owners could have chosen to stand up to him, yet they didn't
It puts the onus on them

13. Nope... the Comish is charged with making the game fair and square...
And your weak comeback doesn't negate the fact that Mr. S ruined major league baseball... it's not sporting to load your own dice. It's supposed to be a "gentleman's game" after all.

Sellout helped rob Armando Gallaraga of a perfect game. So AG pitched the first 28-batter perfect game.

20. Yeah, I remember Keith Olbermann's rant on that one
Didn't even bother with the two runner-ups that day. Selig was the whole "Worst Persons In The World" segment.

As far as I'm concerned, when the umpire admits he was wrong, and the batter running to first base admits he should have been "out" then that should be enough evidence to overturn the bad call.

28. I looked upu your Eli Broad reference
From ESPN
The Los Angeles Times reports that Eli Broad, a Los Angeles developer and philanthropist, has offered to buy the team for the hefty sum, mostly in cash, if the $430 million bid by Boston developer Frank McCourt falls through, according to a letter from Broad to Fox Group.

Fox Group executives were going forward with McCourt's offer and were not pursuing Broad's proposal, a senior company official told The Times on condition of anonymity. Sources within the company told the newspaper they are confident the McCourt sale will be approved.

From the LA Dodgers page
The sale was already in process to McCourt, as I recall. Broad stepped up a little too late because McCourt has having issues with the financing. Everybody on this board got overly excited, for no good reason. Broad would have been the option if McCourt failed.

News Corp chose Mc Court as their first buyer and Broad was a back-up

7. Ed's an old sportscaster, too, so I'm sure he wants
a break from politics now and then. He does it on his radio show every now and then too. I agree that I wish all sports were confined to ESPN but unfortunately it isn't.

11. He died and I feel bad but this guy was kicked out of baseball. He
was the Pete Rose of owners. He had to apply be re-instated. He hired a gambler to dig up dirt on Winfield. And I credit Winfield with being nice toward him today when he commented on "The Boss". But please, Abe Lincoln didn't just die. ESPN is in 24/7 mode over this.

12. I understand where Ed is coming from
after over 3 years of progressive talk radio, I found it lightens the pressure and stress of the political topics. I did mention the Saints during the playoffs on my show and did 2 shows on them after they won the Super Bowl. However for those 2 shows I did announce ahead of time I was going to do so. After all we do have other interest and after so much political stuff it does make it easier.

15. Yeah, but you see the difference there, right?
Cheering on the Saints for their Super Bowl win, that lightens the mood. I imagine Ed would do the same if the Vikings had been in that game.

That's a little different than talking about a dead rich guy who a lot of people really couldn't stand.

21. for those who think George 'ruined' baseball...
Edited on Tue Jul-13-10 07:13 PM by islandmkl
a mere perusal of major league baseball history might help you realize the nature of major league baseball's operating standard...

jesus, george just was another in the long line of owners who had the wherewithal, and the motivation, to acquire all the talent they could...

HISTORICALLY....it's only been going on since around 1917 or so...george was just the most recent, same-old-same-old...

it's laughable that someone would comment that he ruined baseball by merely continuing something that had been an instrinsic part of the way major league baseball operates...

i'm not a yankee fan, but all george did was make his team able to beat your team...yeah, with a lot of $$$...ain't nothin' new there...

you ignore history to atone for your own lack of understanding in professional baseball...it might suck, if your team can't win...but it ain't new...

24. One of Baseball's most influential team owners just died
I am not aware if any rule, federal mandate that states only ESPN can cover a sport's figure's death.
This is NEWS whether you approve or not.
And Keith, Ed, ESPN, PTL for that matter can comment on the man's passing and his influence in America and American sports.

25. Devil's advocate
Steinbrenner and MLB represent a LOT of what is wrong with the right wing. Football, Basketball and other sports have taken over as the "national pastime" because of socialist "salary caps." There is plenty of room to make a message to people that would not otherwise listen, which is what we need to do if we have a chance of framing the message.
