Oh yeah, people would rather sit around & live the high life on unemployment rather
than look for a job. Here is a reality check for the cretins spouting such nonsense.

The average unemployment check covers only 36% of lost wages.

How many people can afford to put off looking for a job while only bringing in 36% of their former salaries? And in some states it's even worse.

Mississippi's maximum is a generous $210 a well, Alabama's max is a whopping $235 a week.

Oh yeah, those unemployed people are living a life of luxury on THOSE amounts.

FYI, here's a chart of unemployment compensation maximum weekly payments by state:

Alabama – $235

Alaska – $320

Arizona – $240

Arkansas – $409

California – $450

Colorado – $455

Connecticut – $576

Delaware – $330

District of Columbia – $359

1. Yes, these are the MAXIMUM payments...if you work for min. wage
already you'd be lucky to get half that.

Perhaps you'd be able to eat Premium cat food.

2. I know when I was unemployed it was champagne and caviar all day long!
I even invested the surplus every week and became independently wealthy, so that I'd never have to work again!

15. See, you're smart. I spent my surplus on imported chocolates, liquor
prostitutes and drugs.

It's the hobo life for me!

9. In WI, you can defer your taxes
At the time that my husband was getting unemployment, we thought that this was a great idea since we needed the extra money. It turned out not to be such a great idea when tax time came around.

13. I don't know about the other states,
but in Illinois, that $511 maximum is with the dependent allowance. For a single person, the max is $385 a week, and to get either maximum, you need to make at least $820 a week for six months.
