THE FIFTH COLUMNIST by P.M. Carpenter
Yesterday the whirling scourges at Tea Party Express dispatched this urgent alert: While campaigning for "the corrupt, failed Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid," President Obama had sinisterly paused to pressure "liberal donors ... to get as much money to help Harry Reid win re-election in this year's 2010 elections." (Note that this year's elections happen to coincide with the 2010 elections.)
That came in the first paragraph. The TP Express then devoted the next six paragraphs to pressuring conservative donors -- the "patriots," we're told -- to give "$500 or more to the effort to ... Elect Tea Party Hero, Conservative Republican Sharron Angle." No irony was noted; end of message.
On the other hand the rather pedestrian TeaParty.org, not to be confused with the more elaborate TeaPartyExpress.org, wanted first to inspire with rousing, sophomoric flourishes before hitting us up for cash. "The liberal cabal," you see, "has fat-cat favors from cash rich Political potentates funding their takeover of America. They suck at the rear tit of the Global Elite and gleam secret kickbacks from the Mortgage Moguls Obama bailed out with your hard earned tax dollars."
