Rep. Nadler: Investigate torture or face road to ‘tyranny’

WASHINGTON – A New York Democrat argued that failing to prosecute former Bush administration officials complicit in the use of torture would create a dangerous precedent and place America on a path to "tyranny."

In an interview with Raw Story, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) invoked a "supremacy of laws" when critiquing President Barack Obama’s decision to "look forward and not backwards" on his predecessor’s abuses of power.

5. Jerry essentially runs unopposed.
We elect him incessantly and I've never even noticed if someone else was running. It's kind of a Why bother?

Donate to the ones in a fight. Jerry Nadler ain't.

16. The donation wouldn't be for an election fight, rather to encourage
further calls for investigation and rewarding him for bringing it up again.

10. Especially if he made a big squawk about it in the first half of 2009
back when the investigation of the crimes should have begun. I'm not in his district and my memory isn't perfect. Did he seriously try to initiate an investigation then? Is he serious about it now, or just posturing?

4. Democrats with GUTS should be leaders and LEADING this country.
Edited on Tue Jul-13-10 05:30 PM by AnArmyVeteran
Besides Nadler, Grayson and Kucinich and a handful of others no one seems to have the damned courage to do the right thing. I'm getting sick of my leaders being timid. Nothing meaningful will ever get accomplished as long as the huge majority of democrats tremble on fear at the mere sight of a corrupt republican. In 2008 we didn't work our asses off to have our country led by timid, uncreative and spineless people.

President Obama: FIRE everyone who is advising you. If they give in to the enemy, they ARE the enemy. Surround yourself with people with damned GUTS. You promised 'change' and I demand that you honor your promise.

18. Remember though, it doesn't cost Jerry anything to do this.
His voters ain't conservative and we keep putting him back in Congress. There's no election risk involved for him.

13. Sad
White House officials and some analysts fear that a drawn-out investigation, which would be virulently fought by Republicans, would drain the capacity of Democrats to advance their domestic agenda.

It would interfere with austerity measures? We wouldn't want that.

The Zubaydah story was a lie. It can be argued that the Zubaydah lies are the foundation of the torture program.

It would be more honest for the Obama administration to admit they work for the CIA.

17. He Should Be Talking to Someone Who Could DO Some Damn Thing
He should get in the face of the Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties and shame him into ACTING.

...Oh, wait. That's his title.
