I fear this behavior in politics is becoming the status quo.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38228744/ns/politics-decision_2010/

This is a billboard created by an Iowa tea party group comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Lenin. Granted, after the fact, you hear the apologies and disavowals from others in the party...but the damage is done. As the people who perpetrate these ads well know, if it is seen and heard often enough many in our country believe it to be true. (See 9/11 attack was done by Iraq)

I for one would like to see some laws passed that could be used successfully against these groups.

22. It's not funny.
The invocation of Godwin's law in a discussion automatically discredits the one who made the Nazi reference. Thus the point of my post was not that of humor, but of irony considering that whoever payed money for that stupid billboard automatically discredited themselves by making a Nazi reference.

Remember their ad with Hitler and Bush?

We all need to stop this behavior. It just degrades society.

6. I know you didn't and I deliberately didn't say you did...
that is more for the predictable post that blames all things evil on repubs as if dems don't contribute as well.

I think more people would be involved in politics, talk about issues, and vote if they didnt' think they were choosing between two groups of hypocrites and criminals.

7. no I don't remember that ad.
at all. Maybe I missed it in the 9million 800thousand 456 emails they sent me, but I don't recall the ad you're speaking about.

I certainly don't recall a billboard on an interstate highway anywhere with that comparison.

Please feel free to enlighten me.

Peace.

11. just got done reading both links. It appears
the MoveOn ad was present on their website for a vote then removed when folks became upset with the comparison.

This is a billboard along a major thoroughfare (did I spell that correctly) not just a submission sent in for approval.

Big difference I thing.

Although I think the * comparison is a lot closer than President Obama ever could be.

14. I think you are correct that it never aired, but...
Edited on Tue Jul-13-10 06:53 PM by Township75
I bet MoveOn.org is much bigger and gets more coverage than whatever group of losers put up that sign. At least just because it is a state chapter of the tea party not a national one.

The MoveOn submission also got so much air play on TV because it was controversial it is almost as it did air.

Regardless, it wasn't my intent to say they are equal or one is worse than the other. I just wanted to point out that this type of behavior exists in both parties.

15. It was PLUCKED out of obscurity by GOP OPERATIVES who used it to smear Move-on
There is a HUGE difference. That ad never would have seen the light of day from Move-on and its members who ignored it and passed it over.

Why are YOU pretending any parity at all and misrepresenting WHY the ad became a news story in the first place?

13. That DIDN'T happen. The ad was SUBMITTED by a member and passed over. It was dug up by operatives
trying to smear Move on and the left.

It would only be similar if the ad was SUBMITTED by a lone teabagger and roundly rejected...however, it was PLASTERED ON A BILLBOARD.

Why are YOU repeating the RW lie that it was a Move on ad?

There was a video contest in which they asked people to post their own campaign commercials to the website. The Hitler ad was one of the entries. It was not a MoveOn.org ad and they took it down fairly quickly.

That was a right wing talking point right out of Fox News and never had any real legs or validity. People who were paying any attention at all knew this and very few fell for this RW smear.

20. No, cuz there was no such ad.
And continuing to say so is perpetuating a right-wing lie.

The ad was an entry in a contest. It had nothing to do with MoveOn and was taken down as soon as it was discovered.

23. I think it's been around as long as the USA has been around
It's not like this stuff just started, it's been around a long, long time. It's just that our ability to communicate the worthless has increased so rapidly in the last generation. Before a stupid sign was only seen locally. Now thanks to the information age you can see a posting of it from anywhere on Earth and beyond...

but it seems to me there is a dramatic increase to blatantly lie, and demonize now days.....with little or no repercussions.
