Iowa Tea Party group's sign links Obama, Hitler, and Lenin

The North Iowa Tea Party began displaying the sign in Mason City last week.

North Iowa Tea Party co-founder Bob Johnson says the sign highlights what the group argues is Obama's support for socialism. He says the pictures might be overwhelming the intended message.

8. I think this stuff is striking more and more people as stupid.

It's starting to lose its impact. How many times can you shout "Obama is Hitler", especially since nothing he has done actually reminds anyone of Hitler? (The examples the teabaggers give are idiotic.)

What percentage of people seeing this sign will think "Yeah! Obama is evil!" and what percentage will roll their eyes and think "Good Lord, still? Give it a rest"?

The problem is that the Obama demonizers have "shot their wad". Think about it. Obama has been in office just under a year and a half. In that short time he has been called a Muslim, a failed Christian, and an atheist. He has been called a malevolent un-American foreign citizen. He has been called a socialist, a communist, a Marxist, and a Nazi. He has been portrayed as an African witch doctor and as the Joker. He has been called Hitler and Stalin and Castro and Lenin and Mussolini and Satan and Genghis Khan. He has been accused of hating black people, of hating white people, of hating all people, of being a racist and of being a "reverse racist" (whatever that is). He has been accused of hating America and wanting the terrorists to destroy the nation.

The demonizers say that Obama will take everyone's guns away. That he will ban the Bible. That he will impose Muslim sharia law on America. That his administration will take over all private industry in America. They say that he has reduced America (already!) to a "nation of slaves". That he is about to institute a one-world government run by the UN. That he will institute a North American Union and change our currency from the dollar to the Amero. That his administration is building concentration camps to house dissident conservatives. That he will recruit a private army of Palestinians and subjugate the 50 states one by one.

Do you see the problem? All of the above wild-eyed lunacy has spewed from conservatives in the first year and a half of Obama's first term! So as the oft-repeated Hitler comparisons and the endless cries of "socialism" become tired and no longer generate the desired rage, where the hell do they go from here? I mean, really, seriously, what's left?

As far as I can tell, the only three things they haven't hit Obama with yet are these:

1. He is a cannibal.
2. He is a child molester.
3. He is not a real human being.

You'd think that if Obama was anywhere as bad as they say he is, lots of people would've already risen up and overthrown President Obama. Nobody likes dictatorships- unless they get to be the dictator, right? Hell, if somebody like Hitler or Stalin really DID manage to seize power in this country, I'd organize and fight against them myself. If we have ever seriously been in danger of lapsing into a totalitarian state, it would've had to have been during the last eight years of Bush/Cheney IMHO, starting with seriously flawed and heavily disputed Election 2000. The Bush/Cheney (mis-)administration became arguably one of the most radical (mis-)administrations in recent memory and seriously pushed the boundaries of what were previously accepted norms of diplomatic, constitutional, legal, ethical, and moral behavior for the executive branch and its agents.
Obama has some work to do to restore the proper constitutional separation of powers and roll back and clean up some of the abuses perpetrated and advanced by Bushco but I haven't talked to a single average everyday ordinary person- Democrat OR Republican- so far who seriously believes that President Obama is even remotely like Hitler and/or seriously believes that we are currently living under a dictatorship. Some people might gripe about President Obama's policies as being "too much" (amazingly) or "too little" but nobody honestly believes that he is a tyrant. It's certainly not a mainstream view but then again hate radio hosts simply like to feel/make their audience -the predominant believers in such wild fantasies- feel persecuted, victimized, and perpetually at the mercy of "others" whom they don't like. They gotta create a market, right?
