Pittsburgh City Council today approved paying $27,000 to two women who said they were unfairly arrested and mistreated during a 2005 anti-war protest in Oakland.

De'Anna Caligiuri of Oakland said Pittsburgh police officer Samuel Muoio unnecessarily zapped her with a Taser, while Carole Weidmann of Sewickley said Pittsburgh police officer Christian Sciulli allowed his police K-9 to bite her during the August protest against the war in Iraq on Forbes Avenue.

In their complaint in U.S. District Court, the women said the officers violated their First and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
