RIP another corrupt republican: Steinbrenner
"GEORGE STEINBRENNER, 1989
Indicted on 14 criminal counts on April 5, 1974, the owner of the New York Yankees plead guilty to obstruction of justice and conspiring to make illegal contributions to President Richard Nixon's re-election campaign. Steinbrenner, a major Republican donor, allegedly knew the money he was donating was not going through regular election procedures. Not wanting to appear soft on crime, President Ronald Reagan would only pardon Steinbrenner if the Yankees' owner admitted to the crime."

41. He was a large figure in the story of baseball, but his life did not stop there.
It' true everyone loves a winner, but winning cannot be everything. Fair and honest competition in sports and life improves the enjoyment of both.

Knowing this man's faults as well as his achievements let you appreciate his life. Good or bad.He was successful. It remains to be seen how mush good he has left here with us.

11. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it....
Some learn by reading, some by observation, and some have to pee on the electric fence for themselves... loosely paraphrased from Will Rogers.

29. Remembering history has never
prevented its repeat, even if the repeat is just a shadow of the original.

And sometimes the original is just a shadow of what happens in succeeding years.

Is dredging up the misdeeds of one man going to prevent it happening again with someone else? Will it prevent even worse things from people or institutions with far more power than George Steinbrenner?

No.

It will happen again no matter how many times people want to dredge up shit from the bottom of the barrel.

We are all human beings. Not Saints.

45. Never is a very long time... I beg to differ...
Forewarned is forearmed. When a sign tells me to watch for falling rocks, I get it. When a child molester's address is given on a website, I know not to allow my children in that area.

We can't stop all the bad things, but we can damn well prevent some. If raking this asshat's name over the coals in front of thousands of people saves one person from taking a criminal action, it's a good thing.

36. Pee Ess....
Once someone has gone, there's no reason for trashing him, or his memory, and that's exactly what the OP did.

I had a stepfather who said and did some highly inappropriate things to my two (full) sisters, and myself. I never told my half sister (my stepfather's daughter with my mom) and I don't ever intend to.

One of my (full) sisters, however, thought it was her duty/right to go and ruin my youngest sister's memory of her father, after his death, by telling her what he had done to us older girls.

I was furious with her.

He was dead. He was never going to do anything like that again, to anybody.

If it hurt my (full) sister so damned much, she should have gotten therapy to deal with her issues....not trash a guy who couldn't even defend himself, not that there would be a lot to defend, but he was still dead.

44. You don't see a valuable lesson in this?
That what is seen isn't always what the real deal is?

Reality bites... it stings, it hurts, and it can be brutal...

Perhaps your youngest sister will remember little hints that told of your other sister's heartache and torture... and perhaps it will save someone close to her from that same fate.

The truth will out... and it's appropriate, even if it's painful to hear.

I'm sorry you and your sisters were subjected to that. I hope the lessons learned will help others, and that you will see how necessary telling the truth is... what if you never told the truth and the unspeakable happens when it could have been avoided?

34. All I can say about George Steinbrenner is that he was a good person to me back in the late 70's.
I worked at a beautiful hotel in Tampa that he owned. People seemed afraid of him because of his hard ball management style. But I never got that from him. Though I was just a worker there, he was personable and engaging and respectful to me.

I'll always remember him that way.

Also, his wife and children were very decent people.

I hope he has a peaceful afterlife.
