Germany backs MEADS defence system over Patriot
Germany backs MEADS defence system over Patriot

July 9 (Reuters) - A German government internal report obtained by Reuters on Friday states a preference for the U.S.-European MEADS missile development programme over the Patriot system.

MEADS is being developed by Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N) of the United States, Europe's EADS(EAD.PA), Britain's BAE Systems (BAES.L) and Italy's Finmeccanica (SIFI.MI). Patriot is run by Raytheon Co (RTN.N) of the United States.

The report prepared by German's defence ministry said the Patriot system was "not a worthwhile alternative in economic nor operation terms". (Reporting by Sabine Siebold; writing by Stephen Brown)

1. OK." Obama Announces German Military Withdrawal"
I wonder how they'd like that headline? I'd like it fine.

2. The Pentagon likes MEADS as well
This is a tri-national program, US/Germany/Italy.

3. I'd still like to see us withdraw completely from Europe.
South Korea, and everywhere else where we remain long after wars have ended. I don't expect it, but that's what I'd like.

4. I think it's OK for us to stay...
provided the local government (and citizens) approve.

5. Well, I doubt that would really have an effect on this either way
And yes, I do believe we should shut down some of overseas bases.

I just thought this was an interesting smack down of Raytheon by the German govt. Raytheon has been trying to woo Germany for quite a few months on this.
