McInnis (Colo Gov Cand) plagiarzes cushy article
http://www.coloradopols.com/diary/12955/breaking-mcinnis-water-articles-massively-plagiarized

A very bad story for GOP gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis is in the process of breaking at the state's newspaper of record, as well as at least one television station--all rolling out as we write.
Passages from McInnis' "Musings on Water" articles, for which he was reportedly paid some $300,000 by the Malik and Seeme Hasan Foundation, have been found to be both word-for-word lifted, as well as subject to easily identifiable token changes from an original article printed in 1984 by now-Colorado Supreme Court Justice Gregory Hobbs in the periodical Colorado Water Rights. Here's a link to the original article from the CSU library, surprisingly easy to Google:

Look at the article to see the comps. Denver Post all over it:

This is REALLY serious. McInnins could be out. Remember Ward Churchill? The repubs were all over him for - not the freedom of speech issue - but the plagiarism.

1. Repuglicans Sinking.
The Repuglicans could have been competitive in Colorado this year. The economy is stagnant and the last session of the state legislature (both houses controlled by Democrats) was uninspiring and out-of-touch with regular working folks.

Plus, Gov. Ritter had alienated union support (thank goodness he decided not to run for re-election!).

With a solid, traditional candidate, the Repugs probably would have been in a good position to take the governorship. But McInnis has always been a political lightweight who has had a problem with making up his mind on issues and/or on his own future.

Then there is McInnis's teabagger primary opponent that has driven him too far to the right.

Now, with plagiarism, McInnis is going to be seriously damaged. Odds are certainly now on the side of Denver Mayor Hickenlooper becoming Colorado's next governor.

And if Democrats are smart and nominate Romanoff, instead of Phil Anschutz hatch-man Michael Bennet for the U.S. Senate, there is a good chance they can keep that seat, too.

2. Yes.
I'm not TERRIBLY enthusiastic about Hick, but maybe now with McInnis dealt what I believe to be a mortal blow, he can be free to take more progressive stands. We'll see.
