Why does everything get turned into a Black and White cartoon?
Edited on Tue Jul-13-10 03:04 AM by Bonobo
I wrote an OP expressing my disappointment with Obama.

Does this mean I hate him? Won't vote for him? Does it mean I want puppies or ponies?

Does it mean I thought he was superman?

Does it mean that I have to leave DU? Join another party? Leave the country?

Does it mean I would prefer Palin or McCain?

Does it mean I need a violin?

Does expressing my disappointment mean any of those things?

No, it was just a post expressing disappointment.

Similarly, supporting Obama and saying you are satisfied with him doesn't mean that you don't wish he could/would do more.

We need to look at each other with fairness and respect and not force 2-dimensional images on each other.

We are not living in a binary world even though the "internets" and the mass-media make it appear so,

All of this goes for getting along with everyone in this world too, even Republicans and Teabaggers and cops!

13. He's a muslin?
That would make things materially different--but I suspect you're making that up out of whole cloth.

5. fairness and respect would be nice.

I just think the pile-on is getting too high, and folks' disatisfaction expressed constantly is taking its toll and the media is and has been using us to make sure that there is a mountain erected in front of all of Obama's policy come this November. So I think we are starting to affect our November election potential outcome with the ironic consistency of always seeing the Glass empty. even when it is not.....and I don't think it is fair, or wise.

The good thing is that I am spending less time at Du where I don't think I make a difference these day, and spending more time actually coming up with actual action items to get things done that helps Democrats retain office, and maybe become more progressive....cause at the end of the day, it won't be what got talked about over and over again that will leave a lasting positive legacy, as much as what was actually accomplished in the middle of this very difficult, very polarized and volatile time for this country. I just want to be a part of a workable solution, as opposed to always being there to simply point out the problems and insisting that they must be fixed right now! I believe one is easier to do than the other, as I think actually getting things changed (where it shows up on the books) is much more difficult than being constantly mad at what didn't happen. I'm just disappointed in those who choose the easy way out, cause in a long run, I'm not sure anyone will be helped by it.

But of course, that's just me.

9. Classic bully approach. Shove you in a category, and dismiss all your opinions at once
by simply condemning the category instead of worrying about your points. Kind of like I'm doing by shoving all of them into the category of "bully" to dismiss them. See how effective it is? :)

The added bonus is that they can then dismiss you by also attaching any idiotic opinion they've heard anyone with any point in common with your make to you.

10. I would I could rec this 10 times.
I don't post in GD much, partly because I fear the wrath of both the hard-core supporters (the so-called "cheerleaders") and those who've all but given up on the guy (the so-called "haters"). And I'm not a big fan of false dichotomies, so the tone of the discussion, more often than not, just doesn't appeal to me much. But to each their own...

11. In a two party system the choice is either black or white.
Also, when I go to a board that supposedly is there to help support Dems, it gets a wee bit annoying seeing more OP's critical of Dems then supportive.
