The Three Sisters' alternate names (just learned this)
Edited on Mon Jul-12-10 11:56 PM by DemoTex
I learned something today about the Three Sisters. I was studying
the Three Sisters Wilderness Area map and noticed that
the Three Sisters have alternate names: Faith, Hope, and Charity.
North Sister is Faith, Middle Sister is Hope, and the tallest - South
Sister - is Charity. Faith is 10,094 feet, Hope is 10,053 feet, and
Charity is 10,358 feet.

I Cor. 13: 13- And now abide faith, hope,
charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Cool beans!

Charity, Broken Top, Hope, and Faith (L to R).

3. Well captured.
Sometimes colors like that can turn out garish - yours have not.

6. It was something of a relief to learn that your wilderness place names...
...were quite different from some of our other historic toponyms. Like 'Squaw Tit,' 'Coon Butt,' 'Molly's Nipple', 'Virgin Breasts', and 'Twin Tits'.

"Faith, Hope, and Charity" are names we can be proud of. And your photo of the Three Sisters (and Broken Top) is gorgeous!

Blue Mountains, Australia

"The Three Sisters is a famous rock formation in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia. They are close to the town of Katoomba and are one of the Blue Mountains' most famous sights, towering above the Jamison Valley. Their names are Meehni, Wimlah, and Gunnedoo."

14. Just got back from a 20 mile hike in the sisters
I can see them out my window when it's clear out. Every time I hike in, I feel like I'm in a cathedral. We couldn't believe the perfection on this last trip--virtually no skeeters! Sunny and warm with an awesome thunderstorm passing us just to the north one afternoon. We even caught 4 large (and delicious!) trout. Each night, a small herd of mule deer literally walked through camp on the way to the lake.

When we were on our way out, the skeeters finally began swarming and it is going to be miserable for the next few weeks, but we must have just hit that brief window between thaw and hatch. Overall, the kind of trip you dream about.

16. Beautiful.
They'd be visible from my place, if I had a 2nd story or wanted to cut the juniper forest down.

I'm enjoying today's break in the heat.
