16. Lining up for it JUST because others are lining up for it?
I gotta have it because other people want it?

I gotta be one of the first people to have it?

Loser doesn't BEGIN to define that type of person.

I got mine, and it doesn't work the way it's supposed to? Karma baby, Karma.

5. Consumer Reports still say that the iPhone 4 is the best smartphone on the market.
Consumer Reports: By the Way, the iPhone 4 is Also the Best Smartphone on the Market

Well, this is ironic. Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone 4, the smartphone that Consumer Reports says it can’t recommend, is also the one ranked highest in its latest ratings. The device scored 76 out of 100 points–two points ahead of its closest rivals, the iPhone 3Gs and the HTC Evo 4G.

The product evaluation agency rated the iPhone 4 “Excellent” in its display, navigation, Web browsing, multimedia and battery life categories, “Very Good” in phoning and messaging and “Good” in voice quality.

25. I don't have to say so. Logic does.
Consumer Reports does not rate based on popularity. Fox News does.

The fact that iPhone is the most popular smart phone is beside the point.

J.D. Power's Quality Survey: Toyota Tumbles, GM Disappoints
Posted by: David Welch on June 17, 2010

You can’t hide from quality problems. Witness the results of the Initial Quality Study released today by J.D. Power. Toyota’s sudden-acceleration crisis—which forced the once-heralded carmaker to recall more than 8 million vehicles over the past year—resulted in its worst-ever performance in the survey. Toyota dropped from sixth place last year to 21st. Consumers complained in the survey about brake and floormat problems, which is what the recalls were mostly about. Last year, Toyota brand vehicles had 101 problems per 100 vehicles. This year, it rose to 117. No big surprise given the massive number of cars recalled.

14. Phone/toy vs. a real weapon of mass destruction.
Cars kill thousands directly in the USA and millions every year through accidents.

When you include Global Warming, oil wars & spills, pollution, lung cancer, the car has killed more people than Hitler, Bushes and Reagan combined.

Comparing this weapon of mass destruction to a phone is ludicrous. If we had any guts we would outlaw the car.

20. Other
Well, it's not just the problems with the Iphone, it's that Apple is being all anal about who can carry and maintaining control of their product. Google, not so much. What will happen with the Iphone is what will happen with the Imac: A competitor will make a crappy bumpoff and take over the market. In this case, rather than Microsoft, it is Google with the Droid.

The Iphone was doomed anyhow, and now it is more so.

44. droid will leave the iphone in the dust..
apple is more concerned with putting out a new device to coincide with their annual hypefest. meanwhile, there will be 20 new droid phones released by 2011. despite the consumer reports article, the android OS is far superior to apple's.

24. A software fix is coming.
That's like a month from launch compared to 2 solid years of Toyota stonewalling their problems. Although Apple has had some faulty stuff recently, with the 27" iMac monitors and the scan problems, and the wi-fi on G networks with iPad, not to mention this. None of these compare with Toyota's problems.

30. No, the new Apple
don't get me wrong, it will hurt them, and majorly hurt them. But unless somebody dies while texting... the comparison is way off. And that would be ilegal regardless, at least in my state, whether it was a Mac or not.

And yes I HATE hardware issues and companies that try to make this a user issue. But hell... show me a company that doesn't do that, and it will either be a VERY SMALL company still concerned about customer service... or not an American company, where that is not the ethos.

But for people to expect loyalty from those who produce our toys...

34. The point isn't deaths, statistics, user error, or anything even close to that
It is an overnight tarnishing of a reputation that has been well-earned because of perceived and actual quality.

As far as Apple goes, did they rush the iPhone4 to market, cut corners, or limit R&D because of the Gizmodo incident?

35. Good Q.
They did come up from behind pretty fast. Like Toyota, Apple is finding themselves on top of the world right now, and the goal of being the biggest car maker in the world is how Toyota started to cut corners.

Apple's always said (well Jobs always said) they'd be happy with 10% of the computer market, but they are the #1 largest mobile electronics company in the world right now, revenue-wise, so hubris may be a factor.

Then again, the retinal display is state of the art, and probably too forward thinking to be ready for prime time.

is poor design... and no the Gizmodo incident had nothing to do with it. They were going to release this around this time.

I got your point, but the problem is what it does. And I would say that it would be more appropriate to compare them to companies in their field. And if fans are a model... Windows Vista hurt Microsoft... the Iphone Four, unless they get ON IT FAST and do some serious PR, will earn them the same scorn and only benefit Droid.
