DADT survey... Laugh or Cry?
So I get home from touring yesterday and I pop into DU and see that the DADT military survey which has been touted on DU as being the key to getting DADT repealed has been leaked. Then I went and found it and read it. So do I laugh or cry?

This... draconian piece of shit is hilarious. It was obviously written by someone who thinks GLBT's have... cooties or something. They talk about being gay like it's a disease. "Are you afraid you are going to catch teh gay if you have to shower with a homosexual"? Fucking morons. I guess none of them have ever been in a locker room before :eyes:

What disturbs me is that many people, mostly the "you didn't get your pony" and "you just have to be patient" crowd seem to be blind to the fact that the people who are "studying" this have no idea what being gay means. They still think of it as some kind of disease and they talk about it like it's some kind of problem.

I actually saw posts yesterday desperately claiming the survey already produced positive results so we shouldn't complain about it. Well I haven't found any "results" yet and judging by the loaded draconian questions it will be a fucking miracle if they get a positive result.

Civil rights and equal rights are not something that needs to be "surveyed" or "tested".

This survey is nothing more than your standard "push polling" happily done by Republicans all the time. Which would be fine if A. We weren't talking about peoples rights and B. If it weren't Democrats running the show.

I really don't care if Obama didn't write or "approve" the survey. He has chided DADT hecklers with comments that he is on their side and is working with Congress to repeal DADT. If this survey is what he calls his administration being on the side of the GLBT community he has a lot to learn. A lot...

2. The survey infuriates me
Responses on DU allow me to see just who is who. Since I can't really say anything to those who think its just great or that Obama is so weak that he no longer is COMMANDER IN CHIEF and therefor is helpless in the matter, well, they just go on ignore.

3. Are there still members of the GLBT community that think Obama is on their side?

4. No but there are a shitload of Democrats
who have been telling the GLBT community to just be patient, and those are the nice ones... I'm hoping that the leaked survey makes some people realize they were wrong about how this administration is handling gay rights.

5. That survey was the most inept piece of crap to come out of the
Pentagon in my experience of reading/hearing about the Pentagon. Who actually wrote this crapola? It was insulting and for them quite embarassing....

6. I read the whole thing and tried to be fair in my appraisal, but could not help but
think it was as if it were a disease... Frankly if one substituted for homosexual with a nationality it would be viewed as extremely racist IMO.

8. Yes, it would be.
Hard to believe this is the 21st century sometimes. Sadder still to see the excuses people came up with here to give cover to this "survey".

7. I was listening to Signorile's program on Friday...
he had a caller who nailed it. "Never has the military in my 17 years asked me for my opinion on anything. I have received and obeyed the orders that were given to me."
