Some cool Cascade Lakes photos for you sweltering East Coasters (Dial-Up Warning)

Mallard Marsh with Mt. Bachelor in the distance

Little Cultus Lake

The Devil's Lake tent sites were still closed last week due to snow pack. Devil's is my favorite Cascade lake (and Sparks Lake too), because they are mainly kayak and canoe water.

Devil's Lake

Sparks Lake with the South Sister in the distance.

Snow melt from the South Sister.

A snowbow tries to form behind Cinder Cone Butte (last week).

Nick

Sunset yesterday

Mt. Jefferson (80 miles to my NW) about 30 minutes after sunset yesterday.

2. THERE's your DemoTex
And let's have no more loose talk about the "boonies" of Oregon. There are about 49 states that wish they had this kind of scenery.

10. Awesome!
Thank you. I am SOOOOO jealous too. I lived in Seattle in the mid 90s and used to get outdoors in the mountains frequently - I miss this kind of view.

Best wishes to you (and hope the "visitor" that spooked your dog doesnt show up again). 'Squatch?

28. Something bad happened, and I can't figure it out.
Nick will not descend the lookout steps without me now. Today was too crazy, with lightning fires on the Cascade side, to go looking for tracks, but maybe tomorrow I can go down early and take a look-see.

29. Make sure you're packing.
I was kidding about the Greys, Bigfoot, and Chupacabra. There are certainly much scarier things out there.

30. I can't. I'm not an Oregon resident.
Edited on Sat Jul-10-10 12:47 AM by DemoTex
I made a mistake by not buying a long rifle in SC. I went to buy an AR-22 in Bend when I first got here and got the bad news.

But someone out here has offered me a rifle. I'll now take him up on that offer.

32. I'm so jealous!
I've been out to the cascades the last two summers but won't make it out this summer. I'll have to settle for Colorado in August (which will be wonderful!).

I especially like the sunrise/set photos! Awesome!
