Labor Day suggestion for Gulf states worried about tourism

Partner with environmentalists, scientists, biologists, etc., and set up seminars/expeditions (open to the public), to show the damage done to Nature.

"Those people" go to restaurants & museums & buy stuff.. and the side benefit from this would be a better educated populace who might be more involved the next time the snake oil salesmen come a'callin .

They could also have suggestion sessions where people could network to share ideas & problems.

It's not as "sexy" as Coppertoned, sexy people in swimsuits, cavorting in the waves, but those people are likely to be going elsewhere for the foreseeable future.

Remember after Katrina, how some"hippies" set up a free-food tent, and many pretty hard-right people seemed to have an epiphany about those "lefties" who just showed up and asked nothing in return for their kindnesses to perfect strangers who would have scorned them in another setting..
