Franken Slams Comcast-NBC Universal Merger During Kagan Q&A

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.), an alumnus of the NBC show “Saturday Night Live,” criticized the proposed merger of NBC Universal and Comcast during his question-and-answer session today with Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan.

“If the same company that runs the pipes also runs the programming, we have a problem,” he said.

Franken later said that if the merger goes through, “it would have the ultimate ability to keep others from publishing.”

He used the proposed merger as a way of framing a discussion with Kagan on media law. Though Kagan declined to comment specifically on the proposed merger, citing the Justice Department’s current investigation into the merger proposal, she said the First Amendment does not provide a general defense to existing U.S. anti-trust laws.

2. SenFranken was BRILLIANT durng his Kagan Q&A. He was quoting all

Bush appointees with their own takes about "activist judges" that they made BEFORE they were on the court..and then said how much he agreed with them. He then stated that they were all violating their own principles now that they are on the court.
