1. In the US it's already been moved from 65 to 67.
Saint Ronnie did that to make Social Security safe forever.

2. Not only that but
even if the job market improves dramatically most 65 to 70 year old seniors won't find work that would provide an adequate wage. This is crazy talk.

7. Interesting. Maybe seniors will run for office, and change this.
I mean besides working at wallmart what will they be allowed to do?

3. The subject here is France : not the USA
Meanwhile the country's annual pension deficit is expected to total £26.7billion this year, and could rise to as much as £95billion by 2050 without reform.

Under current rules, both men and women in France can retire at 60, providing they have paid social security contributions for 40.5 years.

Meanwhile, public sector workers retire on 75 per cent of their final six-month salary.

As well as raising the retirement age to 62, the planned reforms will also require employees to work for a minimum of 41.5 years to qualify, and there will be higher taxes on the better paid.

The alternative I guess is to increase the size of the working population as its their taxes which pay for those retired on a runing basis.

6. The American people have been subjected to (hidden in plain sight) AUSTERITY

for a long time.

Don't forget, our social safety net is vastly inferior compared to social welfare state of European nations, and even AFTER their "draconian" and unprecedented austerity spending cuts the Europeans will still be better off.

I don't even understand how they put up with that shit, at least they have a long tradition of public welfare-oriented social policies.

Neoliberal onslaught continues on to Europe; the goal has always been to dismantle all vestiges of Social Contract, and privatize and loot and pillage everything in sight.

Bye Bye New Deal, Hello Raw Deal.

9. The FULL retirement age for US Social Security is 70 years old already.
Ronnie Raygun changed it back in 1983. It is graduated so that it hits some generations sooner than others.

But in the US if you want your FULL retirement and NOT lose 20 to 50% of what you paid into the system (for the remainder of your life) you have to wait until you are 70.

See how great it has been for the US? At 69 you too could be throwing boxes at Wal-Mart.

What government SHOULD BE DOING is lowering the retirement age. The more people retire, the more jobs are made available. But austerity measures seems to be the new religion. "Let them eat cake." kind of mentality. We must save our credit rating no matter how many people are starving.

12. Because Boehner said so?

The leader of the minority party makes a comment, and people should take to the streets?

There is not even a proposal on a committee table to do so.
