The alternative I guess is to increase the size of the working population as its their taxes which pay for those retired on a runing basis.

9. The FULL retirement age for US Social Security is 70 years old already.

Ronnie Raygun changed it back in 1983. It is graduated so that it hits some generations sooner than others.

But in the US if you want your FULL retirement and NOT lose 20 to 50% of what you paid into the system (for the remainder of your life) you have to wait until you are 70.

See how great it has been for the US? At 69 you too could be throwing boxes at Wal-Mart.

What government SHOULD BE DOING is lowering the retirement age. The more people retire, the more jobs are made available. But austerity measures seems to be the new religion. "Let them eat cake." kind of mentality. We must save our credit rating no matter how many people are starving.
