Boehner: Cut Social Security to Pay for War
http://www.ourfuture.org/blog-entry/2010062629/boehner-cut-social-security-pay-war

Boehner defended the big banks from reform, arguing that the finanical reform bill was like "killing an ant with a nuclear weapon." His comments came as Republican Senators Scott Brown and Susan Collins announced that they might oppose the financial reform bill because it levied fees on the big banks to pay for its cost.

"Ensuring there’s enough money to pay for the war will require reforming the country’s entitlement system, Boehner said. He said he’d favor increasing the Social Security retirement age to 70 for people who have at least 20 years until retirement, tying cost-of-living increases to the consumer price index rather than wage inflation and limiting payments to those who need them."

I HOPE ALL HIS SUPPORTERS HEAR ABUT THIS ONE!

23. I've been arguing in favor of that analysis for several weeks now
And I've argued AGAINST deeming them psychopaths, a.k.a. having an organic condition that renders them incapable of understanding how evil they are.

This dipwad is making me start to reconsider. Maybe they ARE psychopaths after all.

49. Ithink that diagnosis is required to be in any sort of leadership position within the repukes.
They have to be the type of person that would lead the ignorant and the fearful over a cliff, watch them drown and then tell others that it was their own fault.

56. I know
That's why I said I've long argued that just about anyone who seeks a position of high authority and/or power does so from a sociopathic state of mind to begin with. In other words, you have to be someone immune to the wants/needs of others in order to step on them to reach the top. But I would not classify them as psychopaths.

Some of the comments being made recently, however, by the likes of Boehner and that twit in Nevada who thinks rapists are just doing God's work, well, maybe they really are psychopaths. I mean, yes, I'm being a little facetious, but only a little. Seeing rape as divinely inspired is, well, a bit too kinky.

my apologies for misunderstand. I've researched a bit on the topic of Sociopathy and Psychopathy... I am convinced sociopaths are a huge part of our current problem. Our economic and governmental system has been rewarding these types and now they have tons of power.

5. I love Boner's idea of raising the retirement age to 70,
when people half that age can't find a job. And it keeps us old farts from collecting s.s. for 5 more years. That's a huge hunk of change being robbed from us.

11. why doesn't the DNC get some video of these comments ?
they should be broadcast constantly so that everyone, esp. older people, know exactly where the GOP stands

the GOP has been openly targeting social security since reagan days, i don't understand why anybody over age 30 who hopes to retire one day would ever cast a vote for any member of that party

keep this in the public eye, and even if you are under age 30, do you want yr mama and yr grandmama living in yr basement when they steal yr parent's social security? just a thought...because nobody's hiring any sixtysomethings for jobs that pay anything, hell, it's tough enough for someone in their 50s to get/keep a job in hopes of holding on until they can take early social security at age 62

28. I have a better idea
Raise the cap on SS that is held out, get rid of the tax cuts for the rich, take away health insurance and retirement for members of congress who make over $250,000, just a rough figure, and ban all lobbying in D.C.! Now I know cutting back on congress's benefits isn't much, but if everyone else has to cut expenses, so should they! Not only ban all lobbing in D.C., but make all national elections subject to "PUBLIC" financing so those getting elected will not be beholding to any big corporations, and thus making their votes in congress benefit those corporations! Get the big money out of government and we would be able to end the wars, stop giving away billions in corporate subsidies, and congress would, hopefully that is, work for the people who actually vote them into office!

There are many, many ways to cut wasteful spending in our government, what I listed are just a few, without taking it away from those who need help!

54. That woud be a bad move IMO. The longer you demand older people
stay on the job the fewer jobs there are available in the market. I've actually heard some people, like Thom Hartmann, say one of the great fixes to the desperate job market ws to reduce the retirement age to 55.

The S system could esily be made completely solvent if the cap were removed completely & all earnings were taxed at the current rate which is 6.2%. The only tax increase would be that which must be paid for those earning over $110,000, at which time both the employer & the employee would have to contribute the 6.2%. Somehow I doubt that would have much of an effect on those folks keeping their jobs!
