3. T. Boone Pickens
Ever see the film, There Will be Blood? Boone is like that guy - He will charm you, promise to advance the lifestyle of your community, he might even donate a bit of money to your community, then, when you are fully under his thumb, he will drink your milkshake.

8. Oh, I know of T. Boone Pickens very well.
Just did not know which Boone was referenced in the OP. Pat Boone, Daniel Boone, dreamy Boone from Lost. :-)

I don't think Pickens is as industrious as Daniel Plainview. He just uses money to screw people. Wouldn't actually get his hands dirty.

10. Well, then you don't know Boone
Edited on Tue Jun-29-10 07:34 AM by blogslut
He's done that very thing here in West Texas. He charmed us, gave us money and when we woke up voted out his crony Mayor, he spent the next 20 years trying to drink our milkshake - literally.

13. I have lived in Oklahoma for 40 years.Of course I know who he is
Edited on Tue Jun-29-10 07:53 AM by CBGLuthier
My point wasn't that he was nice or had scruples or any such nonsense . I just meant he was not the type to get his hands dirty working in dirt as in the first 15 minutes of the movie There Will be Blood.

Picken's main claim to fame was as a corporate raider.

Now, the often mentioned of late, Gordon Gecko from Wall Street. Well, that's another matter. Hell, I think Gecko WAS modeled upon Pickens. Except for being a lot classier.

Did you hear about Pickens stealing part of a man's driveway last year or so? It was Pickens' childhood home and he just came and took a part of the drive with his name on it. The city bent over backwards and declared it an easement and GAVE it to Pickens. The man is a world-class thief.

16. The character of Daniel Plainview was a complex one
Yes, he got dirty but his origin story was the catalyst for his downfall. He was not happy unless he was in the muck, pulling bounty directly from the bowels of the Earth.

However, the personal story of Daniel Plainview was merely a vehicle designed to embellish the greater narrative of that film - the carpetbagging of America by the corporatocracy. This is where the story of Boone Pickens parallels Daniel Plainview. Remember how the character promised to turn that lonely town into a modern paradise? Why, he even promised to build a school! Boone built a school in West Texas and as you know, he built one in Oklahoma. And as you also know, if you cross Boone or question his motives, he threatens to take his funding away.

For us, when we turn our back on Boone, he decided to wreak his revenge by attempting to literally buy the Ogallala Aquifer. His "wind energy" plan is nothing but a ruse to force our region to give up water rights so he can sell the stuff down state. When I say he is drinking our milkshake I am not exaggerating.

4. Money...
It's intoxicating...especially to those whose careers and lifestyles are consumed by it. Since the dude has lots, that makes him an "expert". They never question how he made that money...just like being near it.

11. Awestruck...
The richer they are, the dumber our already professionally inept corporate media becomes. T Boner is the master con man...how else did he make all that money? A real sweet talker who has mastered the bullshit to a fine art...the talking heads don't stand a chance. More important, Boonie spends his money on ads...he's not just an interview, he's a client, he has them bought.

Cheers...

9. LOL
I refer to him as "Boone" because, a while back, he made a big stink about the "T". He told everyone that he preferred to be called "Boone". I think it's hilarious that all the teevee people still call him "T. Boone". In my area of Texas, we call him "Boone" but we say it sarcastically. :)

18. No one ever asks him what he thinks about Fracturing for natural gas. I wonder why?
Edited on Tue Jun-29-10 08:54 AM by NNN0LHI
He is a big gas man isn't he? How many millions did he spend on promoting natural gas?

You would think that would be the first question for this good old boy.

Must be a taboo subject when he comes on.

Don
