Tea Party Convention Postponed -- Vegas In July Is Too Hot!
A planned "unity" convention for tea partiers is being pushed to the fall, with organizers scrapping a major gathering with just 19 days before it was scheduled to go off. They cited heat and not being professional event planners, but the abrupt change in plans without a new date firmed up doesn't bode well for the fledgling group.

Tea Party Nation announced in an email to members this weekend that their "unity" convention, planned for July 15-17 in Las Vegas, would be delayed. Organizers didn't give a new date, but said in an email obtained by TPM they think holding it closer to the midterm elections would help the movement's "momentum." It's not clear yet if keynote speaker Senate nominee Sharron Angle (R-NV) will still be attending or if anyone who already booked rooms at the ritzy Palazzo where the convention was to be held or who paid the $399 registration fee will get refunds.

"We were so excited about the tremendous success of the first convention, we jumped into this second convention without considering the timing. The heat in Las Vegas in July is keeping many who would like to participate from attending," organizers wrote. "We have also received numerous emails from people who were forced to decide between family vacations and attending the convention."

As TPM has documented, Tea Party Nation has had plenty of growing pains, including problems with top Congressional speakers pulling out of their first convention in Nashville.

2. Three twuths about tea baggers' convention.
Edited on Mon Jun-28-10 06:04 PM by ChairmanAgnostic
A. The wicked witch of the north STILL wants $150,000 plus expenses
B. With only 148 people ready to attend, they may not want to pick up her tab, even though she has a contract.
C. Given the average age of those who did sign up, (83) they feared the bingo and the penny slots would have mesmerized the few attendees who did show up. Those who did not gamble would have been stuck in the morning breakfast buffets, searching for their dental work.

3. Methinks the RSCC doesn't want this meeting to occur
especially with their Senate candidate as featured speaker.

Doesn't NV have air conditioned hotels and meeting facilities?

6. Not too hot for computer hackers!!
Defcon is always July/August in Vegas.

Many attendees are suited in black, adding insult to heat overload injury

17. Let's see what the problem is?
Fly in an Air Conditioned plane to Mccarran Internation (Las Vegas) Airport
Depart plane into walkway into Air Conditoned Airport
Wait about 5 minutes outside for Air Conditoned Shuttle/Taxi/Bus
Ride in air conditioned Shuttle/Bus/Taxi to Hotel
Take 2 minutes getting baggage outside of Hotel Entrance (convention site)
Spend 3 days inside Air Conditoned Hotel/convention site

Trip back

About 30 minutes over 3 days in Las Vegas Heat

Iraqi's and Service Members spend 24/7 in heat in Iraq. hmmmm.

23. The Heat Doesn't Stop DefCon! Nor the Trekkies!
I've been to three major events in Vegas in August (the big Star Trek convention at the Hilton twice, and once to DefCon). Then again, we didn't drop $400/person on those conventions. We could have gotten "premium" seats at the Trek cons, but couldn't afford it.
