I'm at the very southern end.
Picture was taken from Ventura Pier looking south at 12 Noon PDT.
Waving signs and chanting for a ban on offshore drilling, about 200 protestors flocked to the beach next to the Ventura Pier on Saturday. Many were angry and passionate, like Lisa Cordova Schwarz of Camarillo. She wore a sign that read: “No fossil fuel bailouts like the current bill.” “BP stabbed Mother Earth in the heart and she’s hemorrhaging,” she said. “It makes me cry that we are killing this planet, and we are killing ourselves by polluting the water.”
The gathering was part of Hands Across the Sand, an international demonstration at more than 700 beaches around the world. There were about 90 protests in California, including a small group of about 18 protestors at Silver Strand Beach in Oxnard. Participants were asked to join hands and form a line against offshore drilling.
The event’s objective was to raise awareness about oil drilling, change energy policy to curtail dependency on fossil fuels and form a metaphorical barricade against more spills. A longtime opponent of offshore drilling, Assemblyman Pedro Nava, D-Santa Barbara, showed up at the Ventura Pier to show his support.
