The 2010 unemployment extension and tier 5 are in danger. The unemployment extension 2010 could be dropped in the Senate, as once again the measure to pass the Tax Extenders bill have failed. The June 24 vote of 57-42 was three shy of the three votes needed to pass the measure. This deflates the balloon of hope of extending the tiers 1-4 extensions until November 30, 2010 and makes the call for a 5th tier of benefits all the more difficult.
Many Americans have been signing petitions in hopes that President Obama will sign an executive order extending benefits. However there are some indications that Congress has to be involved with the measure, meaning that without the Senate's support the bills could be dead.
The bill has been in the Senate since before Memorial Day. Prior to the holiday break, some Senators promised that the measure would be passed. Unemployment benefits for those in the 1-4 tiers from Congress expired on June 2nd. Since then, all people have been doing is hoping that each day will be the day that benefits are passed.
This could negatively impact businesses and individuals. Families could lose everything they have if they don't have benefits to help them buy food and pay their mortgages. Businesses will be negatively impacted, as the unemployed will stop purchasing goods and services.
