I realize this is because they are trying to take Kandahar. Back when casualties were mounting in the Iraq war some people were suggesting that this is because the enemy is now being more directly engaged and is close to defeat and becoming desperate. I'm not so sure how well this describes the situation in Afghanistan.

2. It's Vietnam all over again
The only difference is the size of the numbers fighting and dying.

4. Increase the number of targets and the number actually hit will
naturally increase as well. Why must we continue to repeat this lesson.

I'm sick of these wars and this administrations determination to continue them for no fucking reason what so ever.

7. The fatalities chart speaks volumes.

I think it's safe to assume that they're going to approach this in a similar way to what they did in Iraq after Petraeus took over. I wonder if the attempt to assert control in Kandahar can be compared to the re-taking of Fallujah in Iraq. The higher causalities in that case were due to US forces going on an offensive.
Whether that means the Taliban is close to defeat or becoming desperate is anybody's guess.
