Edited on Fri May-11-07 10:20 AM by slampoet
And besides.....aren't Barr and the Queen about the same age?

The Queen has only been dressing old since her mother died, and still looks better.

15. I am not a "fan" of royalty, but sheez-louise
she chooses some rundown flats, a skirt that's too short..and with a tacky little flouncy thing at the hem..

The AP always photographs them, and these pictures reflect on us ALL..as a nation.

It says a lot when our so-called elite cannot seem to even dress themselves as well as a Walmart display.

25. Wearing gloves on a hot day is not silly -- it's protection.
Just like a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and sleeves are protection.

As another Northern European cursed with heritage not much different from Lillybet's (though my gene pool is a lot bigger and a heck of a lot less polluted) I totally agree with gloves, hat, and long sleeves on a bright shiny day. Sunburns hurt, make you look old and wrinkly and like a bad piece of luggage, and are really quite cumulatively deadly.

I guess she can't be bothered to update her clothes for a visiting dignitary. Now I'm not one of those who think you have to impress the Queen, however, I do believe that visiting dignitaries who are representing a country that we want to have friendly relations with do need to observe some protocols in regard to them, although the President kissing Arab Royals on the mouth goes too far for me.

I do believe there is a dress protocol for the different occasions one meets the Queen, in the United Kingdom, that is.

75. They are not "representing" our country for visiting dignitaries
and people expect "show-people" to be a bit outrageous.. :hi:

78. I'll reserve any judgment about Bab's looks
Edited on Thu May-10-07 07:44 PM by senseandsensibility
I'm sure she has the face she deserves at her age. However, what struck me about her attire was the CHEAP look. Her outfit really looks like she bought it off the rack at Wal Mart. I mean, it really does. I'm not just saying that to put her down. Now why would a multi millionaire buy cheap junk clothes off the rack?

85. Sure they are
I wouldn't wear them }( but then I'm not meeting the queen either. If I were I think that I'm woman enough that I could tolerate them for an hour or so. :D

86. She doesn't look quite that bad
but she does look like she lives in a small town and is going to the Piggly Wiggly for bread, milk and green beans.

That outfit looks like it was pulled of the rack in a mid level department store and worn a few times too many.

94. "Going to meet the Queen" F@#k the queen
Who cares what Americans wear when the queen of england visits in this country?

We forcibly discarded the whole concept of monarchy more than 2 centuries ago, and replaced it with the better ideal of Democracy. Monarchy is based on the detestable and outmoded premise that certain people have status and power simply by virtue of their lineage. So why do Americans bow and curtsy to this idea of monarchy? Fret over what people are wearing in her presence? Get star-struck over a visit from 'the queen'? And people at DU no less? Screw that.
