Police shooting victim, Isaac Singletary
By Matt Galnor
Jacksonville taxpayers will pay $200,000 to the family of an 80-year-old man shot and killed by undercover police in 2007.
The settlement, agreed to last week according to court records, brings an end to the lawsuit involving one of the most controversial police shootings that came at the start of a dramatic increase in officer-involved incidents.
Accounts of exactly what happened on the lawn of Isaac Singletary's Westmont Street home have differed, and the settlement does not bring the two sides any closer in that regard.
Singletary was killed more than three years ago, and his family has long contended
Singletary did not know the men pretending to be drug dealers on his property were actually police officers. Singletary's nephew Gary Evans filed the suit in federal court in late 2008.
