To his credit, Glenn Beck continues to advocate non-violence in the efforts to resist government power. Having said that, many may have issues with Beck's recent comparison between oil companies, like BP, and Martin Luther King Jr.
The audio clip below, Beck engages in a fascinating conversation with a radio caller who happens to be an oil rig worker. The worker is obviously frustrated by the decision of the Obama administration to put a temporary moratorium on deepwater drilling. At one point, the worker suggest that he and his fellow workers might be willing to resist the moratorium with armed forced by stating that his group of 40 men has around "75 weapons and 100,000 rounds."At this point Beck backtracks and tells the man not to "fight like that," but instead to stand up through other means. However, at the end of the call Beck brings out the MLK reference in telling oil companies to "stand peacefully" against the government.
The reference is Beck's latest attempt at using the MLK name to his advantage. Beck is planning on holding a rally on August 28th at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. That just happens to be the same date and place of MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech. Beck also continually claims that MLK is more representative of the supposedly non-violent, Tea Party movement as compared to the allegedly violent progressive movement.
