1. The buck stops at the President

It's civilian control over the military. Has been that way for a couple of hundred years in this country. :patriot:

6. Civilian control is the standard.
The fact that it has to be "re-established" is worrisome.

4. He was talking about civilian control of the army. Frankly,
I'd be more worried if that wasn't a big priority .

5. That would be according to the US Constitution. There's a reason a CIVILIAN is the Commander in Chief
Otherwise our Bush coup d'etat would have resulted in a military junta.

The President is right on this one.

11. Likewise when Generals deem to undermine civilian authority,
as McChrystal did among his own staff, there might also be room for worry.

Good riddance to the rogue General.

13. Obama was right to call out McChrystal for attempting to undermine a corner stone of democracy
Edited on Wed Jun-23-10 04:44 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
However, considering the way US has evolved into a nation of perpetual war, we shouldn't be surprised when a rogue General shows his colors. War feeds these types of people, and America has become an all you can eat buffet of wars.
