Polls: Americans want Bush Impeached more now than they did Clinton in '99
A 1999 poll in the midst of Bill Clinton's impeachment trial showed that only 32% of Americans wanted to remove him from office. But a poll this week shows that 39% of Americans want Bush and Cheney to be impeached.

So why is all of Congress - save Rep. Dennis Kucinich - just sitting around when Republicans have already set the impeachment bar so low? In 1999, 79% agreed Clinton had actually committed perjury but a majority of those people still didn't think it was enough to ditch him. By contrast, a poll two months ago found that 54% believe the Bush Administration "deliberately misled the American public" about Iraq, which has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.

1. It's nauseating to think that 32% wanted Clinton removed over a lie about sex while only slightly
more 39% want Bush removed over lies which have cost human lives!

2. They're sitting around because polls show a MAJORITY of Americans don't
support impeachment.

And when the Republicans didn't listen to the majority, and impeached Clinton anyway, it backfired on them.

3. How did it backfire on them?
They won the presidency in 2000 (well, "won" in its loosely constructed definition), Cheney was the Senate tie-breaker, and they held onto the House majority. That's not bad as punishment from voters goes, compared to what they suffered in 2006.

4. As you know, they didn't really win the Presidency, they stole it.
And they lost House seats in that election.

8. I acknowledged both those facts in my post
I'm still not seeing how it backfired on the Repubs, except that they were rightly kept from impeaching Clinton to satisfy their petty witch hunt. No comparison can be drawn between that and the multiple serious crimes BushCo has committed. And the number of Americans who favor impeaching Bush** already far exceeds the number who supported Clinton's impeachment...and impeachment investigations haven't even begun yet.

How, exactly, did it backfire on them? They stole the presidency? Prove it...if you can. They got it...one way or the other, they got it, and we got Bush.

What they did hardly backfired on them. It narrowed the margin between the Presidential candidates to the point that CHEATING WAS POSSIBLE. We ended up with a guy in the executive office, who ran four businesses into the ground, was a coke head, went AWOL and cheated on his taxes. Get a clue.
