Can I ask for the return of our Memorial Wall? Nostjami, Kephra, Andy and Sapphire Blue
and a ton of others should be remembered. We have had some of the most gifted people who are what made DU great pass on and there is nothing permanent marking their contribution. I do not want to see them forgotten, and I found myself having to think hard to remember some names though I remembered their efforts.

1. Weird. I was just thinking the same thing
Edited on Wed Jun-23-10 01:55 PM by nuxvomica
I was remembering Andy and Kephra and trying to think of the others just before I logged on a few minutes ago. Thanks for the other two names. What a bizarre coincidence cuz I rarely think of these things.

3. For some reason the thought has been nagging at me. Interesting that you thought it as well!
I believe especially a lot of the newbies need to know what made DU great. And I know we have many more and I hope others would pay them tribute as well.

since we're speculating on the opinions of DU'ers who can no longer speak for themselves.

There have been many excellent DU'ers who've passed away over the years, who haven't had the higher profiles of the ones you mentioned. I'd like to see them all remembered.

Graphic designer and cabaret writer/director.

From Backstage obit page, Thursday April 21, 2005

Jeffrey S. Matson, 49, Cabaret Writer, Director

Jeffrey Matson, a writer, director, and fixture on the New York cabaret scene for many years, died in a Brooklyn hospital on April 2. He was 49. The cause of death was a bacterial infection.

Along with his writing partner, Brooks Cowan, Matson wrote songs and special material for many of New York's cabaret performers, including Sue Matsuki, Joan Crowe, Miles Phillips, and Annie Hughes. He and Cowan also created such popular political revues as "The Question W Revue," which ran at the Duplex in 2004. For the past five years, he directed impersonator Richard Skipper's Carol Channing shows.

A graduate of the University of Connecticut with a degree in fine arts, Matson also worked as a graphic designer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Necrotizing Fasciitis Foundation, 2731 Porter S.W., Grand Rapids, MI 49509.

I picked up the TOON threads for a while after he died. But I tended to collect them over a few days and only posted once or twice a week. Other people who didn't catch my posts chipped in on their own, posting more frequently and at better times of day, so I eventually left to to them. (and hats off to the current keeper of the flame.)

I caught one of the "The Question W Revue" shows -- sorry to say I was a little disappointed. And sadly he didn't get the chance to develop that sort of show more.

32. While this seems like a good idea at first (I once suggested it myself), it isn't . . . . . . .
. . . . There are some departed DUers best left departed.

Whistling the melody of Ritchie Valens' 1958 hit mambo "LaBamba" might help focus you on my reasons for saying this.

53. I always made sure to kick the 'toon threads by nostamj, so I'm kicking this in his memory.
Kick. And rec. Let me pay special tribute to the guy who facilitated the safe passage of our collective sanity out of the 2000zies with his 'toon collections, and pause to recall that he didn't make it through to the other side with us. It was the laughter he facilitated in his own way that made it bearable, and I for one will never forget the favor he did us.

A thought as well to reflect on our loss of Kephra, Andy (probably STILL fighting! Get 'em Andy!), and Sapphire Blue. All are sorely missed.

And yes, bring back the Wall.

it when we had it? I know over the years, a memorial wall has been discussed, usually w/ the passing of a DUer who has touched many. But I didn't know one was ever started. I am very supportive of it. We have lost some great DUers.
