US advanced at the top of it's group to the next phase world cup
Now I know that for many 'round these boards, who cares? Some of us do... WELL DONE gents, well done... and that was a cardiac finish. And that is a bit of "good nooz" in the entertainment sense...

Now I will be shocked if they go any further, but hey, that is just me.

1. I'm happy. When the groups were announced last year,

The English tabloids had the headline

E-ngland
A-lgeria
S-lovenia
Y-anks

But that wasn't the case.

Kinda shocked by France's implosion, I gotta say. But I'm happy Mexico is moving on.

2. France sent a bunch of stars
but not a team... I take pleasure in them getting beaten by Mexico. That really started the implosion

3. Divas, not stars.
The French have always excelled at self-sabotage.

5. Although South Africa didn't move on, I don't think they have anything to be ashamed of
My husband is English and I'm Hispanic so we watch the games as much as we can. I had to LOL when Rooney had to apologize for his comment "Nice to hear your own team booing you". I know he's not known for class exactly, but that comment was pretty tame--especially compared with what the English fans threw at him

4. Saying that the US finished at the top of the group seems misleading.
Framing it that way makes it sound like they played particularly well.

They look good on the attack, but I felt like their defense is still pretty shaky. Seems like they have concentration and focus issues.

8. This is the group standing
I did not make this up. It has no bearing on quality of play, just simple standings, at least to those who understand soccer. At times the best team gets that place, at times not so much.

10. Besides, it's not as though the English played particularly well.

12. And the fans ARE PISSED
I am sure Greene will still be looking for a job SOMEWHERE else.

14. Yes. It's just a statistic without any context.
While it is factually true, calling the US the top of the group makes it sound like they're actually good.

Eh, who cares anyway. This is an argument that could only be held on DU.

15. There is no "framing" of the issue. They did in fact finish at the top of their group.
