Flashback: US Military, on Orders from Bushco, Killed Reporters in Iraq.
Edited on Thu May-10-07 08:51 AM by Matsubara
One of the many, many, many sad things with Bushco is that their lies, crimes and atrocities are so numerous that as time goes on, we forget about them.

Buscho cronies illegally driving navy submarine sink the Ehime Maru, killing 18 Japanese high school kids - forgotten

Anthrax sent to democratic leaders - forgotten

David Kelly, British critic of the war, found dead under mysterious circumstances - forgotten

And another one that remains unresolved, is the incident where US soldiers fired rockets at the Hotel Palestine in Baghdad, killing several non-embedded journalists (guess you pay the price for not toeing the Bushco line, eh?)

Sohas this ever been resolved to anyone's satisfaction? Anyone heard anything about it lately? Investigations? Convictions? Swept under the rug by all the scandals and crimes that followed it?

Did US military target journalists in Iraq?
While media organizations say reporters not targeted, they charge US troops are killing journalists 'because of negligence or indifference.'

By Tom Regan | csmonitor.com

When top CNN news executive Eason Jordan made comments at the recent World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that the US military had targeted journalists in Iraq, he set off a firestorm of controversy that eventually led to his resignation. (Mr. Jordan eventually "backpedalled" from his remarks, and said he did not mean to imply that "US forces acted with ill intent when US forces accidentally killed journalists.")
But while Jordan's resignation may have temporarily quieted the storm around his particular comments, the charges he made continue to reverberate.

The Guardian reports that Friday the International Federation of Journalists accused the US government of hiding behind a " culture of denial" over the deaths of journalists in Iraq, and said the US had to take "responsibility for its actions."

Joel Campagna of the Committee to Protect Journalists writes that while there is no evidence the US military is targeting journalists, too many journalists are dying "at the hands of the hands of US soldiers because of negligence or indifference ... And when journalists are killed, the military often seems ... unwilling to launch an adequate investigation or take steps to mitigate risk."

A CNN Executive Says G.I.s in Iraq Target Journalists
By RODERICK BOYD
Staff Reporter of the Sun
February 8, 2005

The head of CNN's news division, Eason Jordan, ignited an Internet firestorm last week when he told a panel at a World Economic Forum gathering in Davos, Switzerland, that the American military had targeted journalists during operations in Iraq.

Mr. Jordan, speaking in a panel discussion titled "Will Democracy Survive the Media?" said "he knew of about 12 journalists who had not only been killed by American troops, but had been targeted as a matter of policy," said Rep. Barney Frank, a Democrat of Massachusetts who was on the panel with Mr. Jordan.

In an interview with The New York Sun, Mr. Frank said Mr. Jordan discussed in detail the plight of an Al-Jazeera reporter who had been detained by American forces, was made to eat his shoes while incarcerated in the Abu Ghraib prison, and was repeatedly mocked by his interrogators as "Al-Jazeera boy."

2. It was on the news the day it happened, but downplayed at the military's whim.
As you may remember, the media at the time, was a 100% whored-out subsidiary of Bushco and the military, so they didn't make a stink out of it, but I saw it on the news the day it happened and was pissed as hell (and I had thought that I couldn't get any more pissed after "Shock and Awe".

As for "teaching that in basic" - to my knowledge they do not. They teach them to FOLLOW ORDERS. :grr:

4. I don't know if you're trying to be cute or if you're just way out there...
But I'm sure that will become clear enough in good time...

But for the sake of discussion, I'll answer as though your post was in earnest. Soldiers by necessity need to follow orders (although under they UCMJ they are allowed to disobey UNLAWFUL orders). The problems arise when their superiors, especially the Commander-in-Chief, gives them orders that are beyond the pale of all decency.

Just as I thought, you're trying to goad me into bashing the troops. What you don't get is, very few of us (if any) here have anything against the troops.

It's strictly the lying murderous thugs in charge we have beef with.
