Tea Party Express Chairman Mark Williams Stepping Down To Oppose WTC Mosque Project
by Frances Martel | 4:05 pm, June 19th, 2010

Tea Party Express chairman Mark Williams, who gained internet fame for attacking Geraldo Rivera’s journalistic credibility and making controversial statements about Islam and President Obama, is stepping down. He says it is part of a new plan to “think globally, act locally” against the plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero and running for a spot on the Sacramento City Council.
<snip>

<According to CNN:>“Williams said his decision stemmed from his involvement in two other major projects. One is opposing the construction of a mosque near the site of Ground Zero in New York, where the twin towers of the World Trade Center were destroyed by Islamist hijackers on September 11, 2001.

The other is leading a recall effort against some members of the Sacramento City Council and running for a spot on the local body himself after the council voted to boycott Arizona over its new immigration law.”

Williams became a cable news staple when he lashed out at Geraldo Rivera personally for attacking the Tea Party movement and generally “being Geraldo.” He also referred to President Obama an “Indonesian Muslim turned welfare thug,” “racist-in-chief,” and the birther nickname “Barry Soetoro,” and justified it by claiming Obama was “acting like it.” Oh, and he called Allah a “monkey god,” but that was in a pro-Muslim post.
