1. That's a part of it, but only a small part,
The reality is that we, as a country, are taking the Soviet method of sliding into oblivion, spending our wealth and resources on war and the military industrial complex, while letting the needs of our citizens go unmet.

We spend over half of our annual federal budget on the military, and such spending is slowly killing our society. It is well past time that we cut military spending in half, or perhaps even more, and used that money to help out we the people.

4. If it were cut in half, then we, the USA with 5% of the world's population, would
be spending only about 1/3 of the world's expenditure on the military. When considering this expenditure, concomitant the minuscule effective tax rate large corporations pay and the fact that taxes are structured wherein Warren Buffet pays a smaller percentage of his total income to uncle sammie than does his secretary, this all by design and with the malice of forethought of a virulently corporatist Congress, it should come as a surprise to no one that the US is fastly falling to the bottom/near the bottom in virtually all meaningful statistical measurements of quality of life, standard of living, longevity, infant and maternal mortality et al, all these but a few of the joys of living in a society wherein the RW has largely set the national agenda since WWII. :P
