This is an invitation to all DUers to take a look at my new Youtube Channel for my project on a Documentary on Rescuers and the Resistance during the Shoah in Nazi Occupied Europe and North Africa.
Welcome!
This First Comment there is To Welcome People to this Channel which is an Introduction to the Film Project(s) "Liberation Angels- The Rescue of Marc Chagall" (aka Saving Chagall - A Surreal Adventure In Real Time).
It Tells the Story through video, film, interviews, music and archival footage of the true story of the Rescue of thousands of Refugees - Jews, Artists, Musicians, Poets, Intellectuals, anti-Nazi political activists in Nazi occupied France during the Nazi Shoah. It is told through a contemporary lens and filter relevant to the disasters, genocides, terrorism, torture, and chaos, as well as the joy, music, love, wisdom and magic of the Twenty First Century.
It is a work in Progress and your comments (respectful and constructive criticism) will be appreciated.
Right now it primarily contains some archival materials, Musicians and artists I want to feature in the project (including a multimedia project to premier in NYC, and other videos related to the project in ways which may or may not seem relevent. (For example there is an animated Russian film using Chagall's imagery, an Al Jazeera produced film by Naomi Klein on the Gulf Oil Catastrophe, A short documentary on Bicycle-powered Travelling Musicians (the Ginger Ninjas), and even an obscure track from a Jayne Mansfield LP with Jimi Hendrix playing guitar (relevant to me only in that it is part of the surreal adventure in that i had real life (live) encounters with both Jimi and Jayne Mansfield when I was a kid.
If you want to support this project (and look at the youtube favorites and playlist for an idea where I am going with this) please rec it up and aither friend or subscribe if you have gmail or youtube accounts and pass it along to friends.
I plan in the coming months to add my own videos - interviews, documents from my research on this story, interviews with survivors of the Shoah and their descendants (including the granddaughters of Maz Ernst and Marc Chagall) and the Reb Zalman Schacter who was until recently the Wisdom Chari at the Naropa Institute (Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poets) who was a Lubavitcher Rabbi who dropped Acid with Ram Dass and who is featured in the film: The Jew and the Lotus.
Some of the Musicians are folks with whom I have worked or other folks who may become involved in the project.
Please feel free to comment at the site (respectfully) after you look around and pass this along. There is some cool shit there and there is much more to come in the weeks and months to come.
Thanks
Liberation Angel
PS: This is Activism in Motion: How can WE learn to Risk Our ALL to Save Humanity (to save on person is to save the Universe, as the Talmud teaches)? This is what this effort is about.
