last I heard, a wide spectrum of Democrat-supporting folk are welcome at DU.

I can't pick from your poll because it depends on the issue.

25. Wow... overreaction.
IMHO, you are a centrist/righty. Therefore, the poll will skew a different way. If the poll was presented by a lefty, it would certainly show a different result. No harm, no foul.

27. interesting,
Edited on Sun Jun-20-10 12:47 AM by seabeyond
but my post was mostly in tease, not to be taken seriously. i dont know what IDK is though. i am interested.

i really cannot see anything in how i set the poll up to suggest it would lean any particular way, even if i were centrist.

the reason i didnt put liberal, to be honest, is the thread i was reading, when i thought to do the poll, only was talking back and forth about centrist and progressive

i would tend to say conservative dem, progressive, liberal and far left.... now that i have thought about it.

28. and not cause i am overreacting
but also, if you think i am centrist, ergo the poll will be slanted towards what i want, why would it be overwhelming not what you label me as. over 80% on the board is not going with my slanting?

again, just curious.

I used to be somewhere in the middle until they moved the goalposts and I started reading gov't non-approved history.

Maybe I'm drifting further over as we go along, or maybe I'm being pushed by the sheer level of crap going on? Probably won't be able to tell until things get sane again...if they ever were.

31. I chose "far left" but I'm not a Democrat
I'm Green Party which is, of course, a third party, and I don't know how any far left person would want to stick with the Dems. You could still vote that way, which I do a lot, but I can't be a member of such a corporatist, national security-type party.

41. I didn't vote but "liberal"
I don't think I understand what people who know more about politics or the democratic party define as liberal/progressive/left of left, so I can really only say 'liberal' but it isn't really important to me as it doesn't change my views.

Some stuff I believe in:

the government shouldn't be involved in people's personal lives
government should actively be involved in regulation of corporations
for human rights
for civil rights
against wars in general
for privacy
support the ACLU
believe we should provide for those that can't provide for themselves
for humane treatment of animals both as our pets, companions, and food animals (no to factory farming & I can see a day when I don't eat meat or eat very little)
against the drug war
for protecting the environment
for immigration reform that has some path to citizenship for people already here
pro choice
against our bloated military budget
for the public option we didn't get
against outsourcing jobs
for campaign finance reform
support unions in general
for public schools over charter/private
against the patriot act
against corporate welfare
anti-corporate personhood

47. I put out a question this morning
Edited on Sun Jun-20-10 11:15 PM by Angry Dragon
asking for the definition of a progressive, liberal, etc.
and no one really said what these terms(labels ) meant.
Anyone here care to give some definitions??

Or what each would work towards, what each would believe in.

48. people want definitions. cant give it. i googled and there was no clear definitions
i guess some see progressive as right. i always equated them with liberal. but i see many dont. some do.

i think this poll is own self identity, but it cannot be across board because we all define it differently.

i wish i had put

far far left

liberal

progressive

centrist

ah well.

as you can see thru many posters, even that would not define many of the people on the board.

liberal
centrist
Far far left

stand?? Just trying to get a handle on this. And I do understand that each topic is fluid.

Edited on Mon Jun-21-10 07:49 AM by seabeyond
no regulations all the way to govt owned or people owned.

i couldnt define it. since doing this thread, i have thought exactly what my position would be. both my brother and father call me a flamin liberal. another poster here calls me right, or centrist.

trying to define myself i went thru the different issue and i agree with a majority of them. so where it puts me in label, i am not sure.

i dont know that anyone can define. you need someone smarter on this issue than me.

50. lMost decent dictionaries give good descriptions...
of the major political stands or perspectives.

There are three major perspectives according to Poly Sci 101:

Conservative
Liberal
Radical

The better the dictionary, the better definition.
