HEADLINE: Farmed fish given meal tainted with melamine
"Not clear if contaminated fish entered the human food supply" :eyes:

WASHINGTON - Farmed fish have been fed meal spiked with the same chemical that has been linked to the pet food recall, but the contamination was probably too low to harm anyone who ate the fish, federal officials said Tuesday.

The Canadian-made meal included what was purported to be wheat gluten, a protein source, imported from China. The material was actually wheat flour spiked by the chemical melamine and related, nitrogen-rich compounds to make it appear more protein rich than it was, officials said.

After pigs and chickens, the farmed fish mark the third food animal given contaminated feed. The level of contamination is expected to be too low to pose any danger to human health, said Dr. David Acheson, the FDA’s assistant commissioner for food protection...

When reached by telephone, the president of Westaqua Commodity Group Ltd. , based in Vancouver, British Columbia, declined to talk about the matter.

“I can’t talk to you about that today,” Kelly Mills said, adding: “We’re not talking to the press about this issue.”

2. It tooks months before they would admit it entered the pet food
Then a month or two later they admitted it entered the farm animal food.
Then a month or two later they admitted it entered the farm fish food.

What will they be admitting in another month or two.

Meanwhile, of course, even though thousands of pets have died, there is no danger to other living animals such as humans. So says the FDA, USDA and a bunch of other loyal bushie federal departments.

17. Yet the FDA put out a warning
to their own people that the tainted food wasn't safe for humans.

5. farmed fish are nasty
even without the melamine. I am bit by bit becoming a vegetarian, not by choice altogether, but in self defense

8. that is how I ended up on this road myself
an act of sheer fear after studying macrobiotics for several years. I am not vegan nor vegetarian 100% but I am probably about 90% vegetarian. I eat small amount of meat maybe once a week or less.

If you ever study macrobiotics, it will scare the sh*t out of you, I'll guarantee you that much. :scared: about food since the late 1980s.

P.S. Be sure to watch the water you drink. It is perhaps worth investing in a water filtering system. Also, try macrobiotic salts. They are more expensive than the salt sold in stores, but are superior in all ways. It is called, "si salt" by the Japanese and is likely imported. The type from France (France? Are you still with us here?) is THE BEST, esp. for baking! :)

11. Check this out for salts, etc. etc. ....
This one here is the closest one to the French salts I was once able to buy from this store - Gold Mine™ Light Grey Fine Celtic Sea Salt®.

I have a Multi-Pure water filtration system myself. I've had one ever since I lived at a place that had one funky well so I know what you mean. :puke: Lots of people got sick that lived at this place that drank the water. In fact both people that lived across the street from me in separate units (not related people) were diagnosed with cancer. One of them has died; the other person, I don't know how he is. :(

Best of luck to you.

20. you are most welcome!
I just placed an order after posting this (I'd been meaning to do it for some time now but putting it off like many other things).

I got some shitake mushrooms, Ohsawa barley miso, some Ohsawa dried tofu, twig tea, kuzu, etc. I'll be stocked up on essentials again soon! This is great stuff as it basically keeps forever (well for many years anyway, esp. if not opened).

I love this place myself - been dealing w/them for many years. :)

10. Himalayan salt is supposedly the purest
Himalayan pink salt crystal chunk is grated like a chunk of Parmesan cheese. It's considered the most pristine of salts because it was formed when the Earth was pure and unpolluted. Millions of years ago, when the sun evaporated the primordial sea, this salt was left behind buried deep in the Himalayan Mountains. Today, it's mined and carefully processed by hand to preserve its 84 minerals and trace elements.

6. I always knew why I never liked farmed fish
I tried something called "troll" several years ago. It was salmon and it looked GREAT but the taste was awful! :puke: The price was also very high as well (like almost $15.00 a lb.!).

I've never bought farmed fish since. I buy fish that swims far out at sea like yellow fin tuna on occasion. I also occasionally buy fresh pacific salmon when I can find it at a reasonable price which is not often.

The last time I was at the cheapo store, they were pushing it telling me how it was much safer due to the mercury levels found in fish. I just said yeah right, and it tastes like sh*t! NO THANKS!

need pollination, like berries and fruits.

19. *UCK farmed fish. It's another filthy invention of greedy capitalists.
Farmed fish doesnt have any flavour, only has half of the proteins and nutrients the equivalent wild fish would have, and plus is fed with all sorts of drugs and hormones.
I only eat tuna, squid and sardines because I know they cant be farmed, yet.
