2. a lot of people say this now, but I assure you I was not one of the the supposed 80% or whatever
who approved of him.

And even on the day of the attacks, I admitted to friends that the details of the attacks seemed very suspicious, and said something to the effect of "All I am saying is, you should watch Canadian Bacon and tell me this isn't a deliberate effort to start up a new Cold War"

3. No one knew where George bUsh was on Sept 12, 2001. He was hiding.
In fact, the US media started questioning why George bUsh hadn't addressed we the people and demanded to know where he was.

George W. bUsh; always a coward.

20. I sat and watched the 9/11 disaster unfolding on television...
ALL day and night. I kept wondering, "Where the heck is Bush?!?" The only person who stepped up to the microphones and acted like he was actually doing his job was Guliani (who I also don't like, but I have to acknowledge that he was willing to take charge at that moment, unlike Bush).

During an attack like that, minutes felt like hours and Bush just wasn't there when it counted. 'Sorry, an evening briefing from the White House was too late.

Bush's performance in regard to 9/11 was dismal in every way. Even his famed photo-op on the rubble was staged. The fireman who posed with him? Off-duty, not working on rescue and chosen because he was short and thereby enhanced King George's stature. :puke:

Bush: King of photo-ops and stubborn incompetence.

31. He wasn't in hiding by Sept. 12.
True, he was in hiding up until that evening, though - but not on Sept. 12. He addressed the nation the night of Sept. 11, but we did NOT hear from him until that evening. Certainly not while every thing was going on.

5. I had not yet developed the disgust I feel for him now, but I
Edited on Thu May-10-07 01:23 AM by adsosletter
think it actually might have begun then. I don't know how much control he actually had over where his security detail would allow him to go on Sept. 12; but, I distinctly remember telling my wife that he was missing the perfect opportunity to demonstrate real courage and leadership by appearing (on the evening of the 11th, actually) before tv cameras in the Oval Office to reassure the country that the situation was under control, and that our nation was secure, and that we were taking steps to respond to those who had attacked us.

Some kind of an FDR or JFK moment, FDR preferably.

I realize now that he just doesn't have it in him.

I'm glad I don't have to live in his head...

19. He did address the nation on the evening of 9/11
from the Oval Office in a pretty decent speech. I know it sounds awful, but the part of the speech I remember most is when he flubbed the word "enemy" in one of the last sentences of the address. It was like, "American has stood down nennemies-enemies before, and we will do so this time." Haha. I think it was supposed to be the homerun one-liner. Oh well. I'm just dissapointed that I'm still having to wish that Osama is dead.

88. Exactly right. Remember how much faith we had in the neocons?
Tons of DUers were absolutely convinced Bush & Cheney would produce bin Laden in chains or on a slab in time for the 2002 elections. Then many were convinced he'd do it in time for the '04 elections. No one could have imagined he'd still be at large today (despite being reported dead on three occasions). Or that Afghanistan would be slipping back in Taliban control five years after we toppled them.

If nothing else disproves the 9/11 conspiracy theories, Bush's abysmal performance in office since then, along with his whole delusion crew of delusional fuck ups, shows they could plan their way out of garbage bag, much less pull off a massive conspiracy.

8. So many fibbers...
...I was here on September 11th and 12th of 2001. We went from the vocal majority calling Bush a fraud to "we've all gotta pull together in this time of tragedy". In the course of one day, I was called both a Zionist and a Arab-sympathizing terrorist, for not going along with the "agreed upon narrative". And even on this board, those that vocally opposed the Bush administration were in the minority. More than the 10% we were nationally, but not by a whole helluva lot. Many of us were called conspiracy theorists for asking questions that we now know the answers to. And there are still way too many questions floating out there...

and tell us what the hell was going on. He never did. And I was shocked again when he didn't do anything about Katrina. As much as I knew he was a buffoon, I still couldn't imagine that anyone in charge of the country could not take an active role in such tragedies. I guess he fooled me twice about that. I won't be fooled next time because I already realize that as sick as it is, that is part of their plan to privatize the government.

The spineless little twit said the hell with being a role model, I don't wanna do any more presidentin'. I'm outta here.

The country needed reassurance and the little dickhead was nowhere to be found, he couldn't even give a recorded telephone message to the country.

It's beyond me how he was able to get any of the sheepies to believe in him after that but BushCo pulled it off somehow.

16. I was willing to wipe the slate clean and give him a chance
And for several months I did, given the gravity of 9/11. I was batshit angry at the people who atatcked this country. Sometimes I even defended him when people attacked him. I still believed that he stole the election, but he was the president, and even though I felt Al Gore was legitimately elected, Gore had no powers on 9/12/01.

By April, 2002, Bush had mostly lost me again.

23. It wasn't until a few days/weeks after 9-11 that I started to suspect him...
At the time of the attacks, I thought he was a horrible, illegitimate president, but was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in handling the emergency, but instead of showing real leadership, he and his team immediately went into full-on exploitation mode, stoking up America's basest nationalism & jingoism. By the time anthrax was sent to leading democrats, I felt like either Bush or his supporters must have been involved.

I've yet to see any damning evidence of Bushco involvement in 9-11 or anthrax, but my intuition tells me they were a part of it, as nobody benefited more from those attacks. Besides, remember who Bush comes from - a sleazy arms-dealing spymaster father and a grandfather whose business interests were confiscated because of his support for the nazis.

In late 2001 and all of 2002, I was amazed as most of the country seemed to fall under the spell of this buffoon, even as he continued to behave in the most cynical, insincere and exploitative manner.

I despise him and all in his cadre. The lowest this country has to offer.

I never liked Chimpy, but my main thought on 9/11 was that I wouldn't wish the presidency on my worst enemy at that point. I was hoping he wouldn't blow things completely, and that he was smart enough to take the advice of respected elders like Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. (How little we all knew...)

I didn't revert to (a newly-intensified) Bush-hating mode until, after botching the attempt to capture ObL, he started spinning the notion of taking action against an "axis of evil," none of whom had anything to do with supporting al-Qaeda. I think it was at that moment that I realized Captain Crotchsock wasn't just borderline comptetent...he was actually trying to manipulate the tragedy for political gain, and to achieve ends that had nothing to do with defending ourselves against those who attacked us.

34. Saw Little Bushie Boy
Pretty much buy and bully his way into the governor's mansion in Texas. Mostly by sliming a great woman: Ann Richards. Couldn't stand him from then on. In 2001 I'd long since left Texas but knew the guy was scum. I never supported him. Not on Sep 11, not in April of '03.

I lost a lot of friends by taking the position of 'let's be rational about this. Revenge solves nothing. Iraq is not a threat (that was later) to the US. Go into Afghanastan with a plan. Crying terrorist at every opportunity is like looking for communists under every rock in the 50's.

Funny enough, I haven't gotten any apologies from those former friends or even a 'you were right.'

I don't know how much every remembers the atmosphere of those days, but I mostly kept my head down and only shared my feelings if asked. it was a very surreal time.

36. I waited for some form of reaction from the WH, anything
on 9/11 and the day after. Even Cheney to surface and snarl at us. Nothing for the longest period of time from our erstwhile leaders. I commented on it to my coworkers. What kind of leader does not seek to calm his nation after such an event? What kind of person disappears totally in this age for such a long period of time. He could very well have taped a message and had it played from somewhere else if security was the issue.

Do you think any of the preceding Presidents would have let the nation sit and stew in fear? Now, seriously. AWOL

I didn't get all gushy with emotion when he spoke to the country and I got a lot of people pissed because of the things I was saying about him and his inability to do his job. I was still reeling from his "decision" concerning stem cells the previous month.

When the planes hit, right off I said that the moron knew this was going to happen, and the people at work all gave me the evil eye. No one took kindly to me laughing at them for believing that Bin Laden was going to be "brought to justice" either.

40. Always hated him, but you've reminded me of two things about that time.
When he was appointed by the SCOTUS, I was very concerned that, for the first time in my life we had a pResident that I was certain was not as smart as I am. In the past I've disagreed with all of them at times and all of the time with a few, but I always knew that they at least had some experience, intellect, savvy, talent for persuasion, something that made them special enough to sit in the big chair.

I began to really consider the possibility, and make plans for, getting out of the country. But after the first few months I began to think that he was such a dunce, and the system was basically sound, and that would be sufficient to contain the damage he could do.

Then that morning my girlfriend woke me up to tell me "we're at war or something".

I turned on CNN and after about 5 minutes I became afraid.

Not of a bunch of madmen in airplanes, we've gone through this shit before, but the realization that a barely functional moron was in the White House and the sheeple were actually terrified.

I've been afraid for us and our future ever since. I've watched the moran make the worst possible decision at every opportunity and seen all of my worst fears realized. With each new development I've seen the flock react exactly as I feared and seen the scum on top take full advantage of it.

There was a brief respite after the last cycle, but so far our "new leadership" is working just like I feared they would, pretending to want to do what's needed while actually continuing down the road to ruin.

Before 9/11, I just thought he was a harmless idiot who couldn't possibly be worse than his daddy, and end up a one term president. BOY, WAS I WRONG.

I think my feeling for Bush got worse once I saw the footage of him sitting in the classroom after being told the country was under attack. And, of course all the rhetoric surrounding Iraq in 2002.

On September 11th & days after, I was in too much shock to think about Bush. I didn't expect much from my little pissant ex-Governor, so I wasn't disappointed.

Some time later, I was discussing the situation with a friend. We'd both been glued to the TV when not at work. I added that I'd always hit "mute" when Bush appeared. She looked shocked, then relieved--as she realized that not respecting him was OK.

Although I live far from NYC (& didn't realize at the time that a cousin worked there--although he was OK), I didn't sleep well for weeks. Then I heard that Bush & Pickles got to bed early on 9/11 & shared a bit of humor.

50. I wondered why it took so long for him to speak.
We now know that he was sitting on his butt for a few minutes after he found out we were under attack.

Then, he was on Air Force One (when isn't he?) flying around all over the country.

When he did finally appear and speak, I didn't feel comforted. I felt like if he did the right things, it would be the first time in his life that he did.

Bush is a coward. AWOL from serving his country, AWOL from protecting the country when the responsibility was his. Not Clinton's—Bush's. Clinton was long gone from office on September 11th, and Bush and his group of do nothings ignored all the warnings and did nothing.

Oh, they took vacations. And they let thousands of innocent people die because they are inept and shouldn't be in the positions they are in.

When you are handed a memo from credible sources telling you terrorists are determined to attack us with jets, it would seem SOME ACTION would be warranted. But no, vacations come first... :eyes:

68. The bin Laden family and the Bush Crime Family have very thick ties,
that go back a long time.

That is why I believe Bush is more involved in the 9/11 attacks than people think. Both families have benefited greatly from the aftermath of this disaster.

The Carlyle Group has grown very quickly due to its government contracts. That would seem to be a conflict of interest, but no one seems to be looking into it.

58. Well, on September 12th, I just wanted him to nuke somebody.
Needless to say, I was upset by the attacks on the country and collapse of the Towers, as reported, to the point of complete irrationality. It really didn't matter who was President at the time, I wanted retaliation. My opinion of him wasn't much different than it was on September 10th. I thought he was an idiot and a fraud and I wished it was anyone else but him in the office but I was also was hoping he would kick the shit out of someone. If you want to call that support go ahead and call it that but I liken my feelings more to the degenerate gambler who knows the deck is stacked yet still hopes to outdraw the house plant.

66. Immediately following the events of 9-11, he flew out here to
NE, that did it for me. No matter what he would have done after that, it (at least for me), would have been meaningless, all I saw was a coward.

The office of the presidency is one that demands being able to face danger when it arises; and I've heard way to much of the, "but he's the president and needs to be protected crowd".

During the time the WH was being redone under Truman, a lot of safety precautions were added, even a bunker in the sub-basement, as far as I know, no president ever used it, except maybe to get a feel of the place. There were some Cubans who went to Blair House, where Truman was staying during the renovation, w/the notion to assassinate Truman. One SS agent was killed and another wounded, the Cubans failed in the attempt. At the sound of gunfire, Truman came out to see what was going on,. Sure, might be a little wild, but Truman was no coward.

FDR refused to have the WH roof camouflaged to protect it from attack, Kennedy stayed in DC during the Missile Crisis. James Madison fled as the British were getting pretty close, but Lincoln stayed there, and in plain sight, even after there were several attempts on his life.

Sure times have changed, but I can honestly say, if I were president at the time, I would have been in either NYC or DC as fast as AF1 could get me there...to me, it is just the right thing to do.

An honorable man would have resigned in shame for presiding over such a disaster. He had failed miserably to fulfill his duties and the proof was smoldering in New York.

Several people from my town were dead, as well as colleagues of friends and acquaintances. I was certainly not impressed by our ostensible leader scuttling around the country like a frightened rabbit.

I did think Bush gave a good speech in his joint address to congress on September 20. Along with the initial success of the war in Afghanistan this was probably the most positive I have ever felt about him. As we all know it has been downhill all the way ever since.

I was willing to listen to what he said, follow what directions the government gave. Don't forget that it was a quite a few days before we started to understand that there wasn't going to be a broader war. No one knew what could be coming next and we only have one president at a time. If you're in Pacer and a wild stampede of buffalos comes charging down the street at you, you don't hop out and start looking for a T-bird. You drive with the car you're in, no matter how clunky it might perform.

That's just the week following the attacks, of course. By mid November I was back to loathing his sorry ass.

A national crisis does not mean the citizenry should abondon their senses

This lunatic encouraged the nation to be fearful, then sold them on the
idea that he was the only one who could save them from their fears.
His mantra that it was his "duty" to protect the murikan people was the
was appalling. It was his duty to uphold the constitution of this country
even in times of peril and he failed.

Every crisis that occured on his watch or was created by him and his
administration was nothing more than an attempt to turn this nation

"This is his fault for pissing off everybody in the world!" There was NEVER a moment of respect or deference for that asshole.

I agreed. 9-11 was the chickens of his neocon foreign policy coming home to roost. He ignored Clinton's warnings about terrorism. Thanks to Ronald Reagan propping up Osama and his ilk during the 80's, the nation experienced what amounted to a drive-by shooting on a large scale. Their thugs sending our thugs a message, at the cost of 3,000+ innocent lives.

What it indicates is that the 10% (if that number is to be believed) needed a haven, and DU was it. I was an occasional lurker from about May 2001 or so... then I jumped in a few weeks after 9-11, seeing that there were others who felt as I did and needed to VENT. It was hard dealing with all of the media-induced worship of him.

I have a loathing of the Bush dynasty that dates back to Bush Sr accepting Reagan's selection of him as VP in 1980. No terrorist act in the world could undo that.

And everyone knows that the only people at Woodstock were the ones who DON'T remember being there.

I hated him before, after and at all times. He had been my governor. To know him is to hate him.

One of the neatest and most touching interviews we heard on the 12th was with the wife/widow of the wine steward at Windows on the World, the restaurant in the Twin Towers. Her husband died when the buildings came down. She was sobbing, of course but was obviously a progressive. She said, (my words): "My husband is anti-war; I'm anti-war and I know he would not want this country to go to war in his name."

But I was amazed he actually took the 2000 election .

I felt he was a complete idiot with a very untrusting look about him only to be worstened by his voice .

As soon as 9/11 came my first reaction after the horror wore off enough to think is that the reason this happened was because bush was now president . I had a gut feeling he was the main reason for all that horror . I did not know why , I didn;t feel at first it was a direct involvement , I do now and did soon after the reports flowed out .

I do believe if Gore had been in office none of this would have happened .

Now here we are with another stolen 2004 election and a murderous war still going on and bush is still in office , this is horrifying and insane .

So now what , who knows .
