What an incredible storm is coming.
Chicago has 2 inch hail, 80 MPH winds. . . Hell, them's hurricane numbers. . . . incredibly powerful thunderstorms, all heading this way.

They just extended the severe weather from 4pm to 7pm local.

Time to find shelter, boys and girls.

41. Gotcha! I actually used the same ploy with my freeper climate change denier friends
when we had the warmest March on record. They were always quick to chime in about "so much for global warming" when it was unusually cool in what is normally a warm month, or summer, but did say a word about the record warm March like "thank God for global warming!" But then I said we would both be wrong since it is weather and not climate.

Here in Wisconsin the UW predicted that in 50 years our winters would be like those in southern Iowa and in 100 years it would be like Arkansas, but without the equally hot summers. These climate changes will result in a whole host of trees and crops that will no longer grow well here in WI with that much of a warmer climate.

71. More frequent severe storms are one of the expected general effects of global climate change, though
During all seasons. Also more extreme temperatures. I can state with confidence that, after a lifetime of closely watching weather patterns nationwide, the US at the very least is experiencing exactly that.

Some storm fronts are worse than others, but we get doozies running through fairly commonly. Sometimes Iowa gets hammered (see Parkersburg), sometimes Minnesota takes the brunt (like last night), sometimes it's Wisconsin etc., but wild and woolly summer storms are a fact of life here.

51. Yeah, Minnesota got pounded last night.
Iowa caught some too, but not quite as bad as MN. Luckily for us, the piece that came through here had weakened by the time it reached us. We had a minute or two of wicked winds (but not damaging) and then some rain and that was all.

Today's rounds mostly fizzled around us also. Worst stayed south of us.

The videos of last night's tornadoes in MN were wild looking! I'd have been shaking in my boots if I saw one of those coming at me!

How bad were the ones north of the Cities? I heard Rush City mentioned, but I haven't really seen any news today. I have a friend who lives in Pine City.

It wasn't too bad. The lights flickered a few times, the cable internet was down for a bit (not sure how long, mine was out for about 45 minutes till I re-fired the modem a few minutes ago). Didn't hear any hail, and I've stuck my head out the back and it's raining hard, thundering and lightning, some strong gusts but nothing seems to be blowing around that shouldn't be...Looks like it'll keep raining for awhile.

nice thing is the temperature has dropped 15 degrees in the last 20 minutes, heh.

Hope it didn't blow my garden over too much. My broccoli practically blew over the other day when it was real windy (and dry). My tomatoes are tied up pretty good though.

54. Storm rips windows off 110-story Chicago tower
CHICAGO - A swift-moving storm carrying high winds and pelting rain knocked out windows at Chicago's 110-story Willis Tower Friday.

The storm also knocked out electricity for hundreds of thousands across northern Illinois.

Police on Friday roped off areas around the imposing black building long known as the Sears Tower. Chicago Battalion Chief Michael Gubricky says windows were blown out in a 29th-floor air conditioning mechanical room and a 25th-floor unoccupied office.

Glass was on the sidewalk, but no injuries were immediately reported near the tower. Authorities say a woman did receive minor injuries from flying glass at the downtown Daley Center blocks away.

I wonder if it'll make it here. A lot of times they break up over the lake and by the time they get to my area we're lucky to get a little rain. This front is serious though. It was so hot and sticky-humid at around 9pm here it was crazy. And the first one is pouring a lot of rain here. The first 15 minutes were pretty windy but I don't know if it did any damage..

It came in quick, twilight lasted about 5 minutes...then it just went dark.

I always get the cat carrier out of the closet when this happens. Just in case.

69. Wasn't too bad here. It was already reducing in strength and our weatherman said the
storm warning for the next counties would most likely be cancelled.

72. Walked home in it this afternoon. About a mile up Sheffield Ave. No hail. thankfully.
Found out after I got home that it had taken chunks of the Aon Center building. Incidentally, Aon Center is where BP's offices are. Make of that what you will.

73. well, we survived.
The backyard was flooded up to the the back porch of a neighbor, but not a drop inside.

All the trees are standing, but there are many reports of downed trees, smashed cars, at least one fatality, and close to 300,000 without power. Many traffic lights are out.

A friend who has a great beach place in NW Indiana, on Lake Michigan's shore, lost all of his 100+ yr oaks and maples.

I've been through bad storms, a tornado, even the nasty edge of a Himmacane. But here in Chicagoland, never have I seen water being driven at 80mph from the street upward, or rain flying horizontally like this. Twice. While the first storm was fierce, a highly organized arc from Milwaukee to Joliet, the second was actually worse.

These 50 and 100 yr storms seem to be coming in a lot more frequently. Just talk to Tennessee, Texas, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, . . hell, the whole midwest.
