No one knows where the Dick is, I'll bet that would bring him out of hiding.

Were they legally sealed/locked up for 100 years or why haven't they been opened by Obama? Isn't this catastrophe serious enough that we can demand they be opened?

What does it take? Who does it take to get to the truth?

3. C'mon now. We are looking forward not backwards.
Obama's unwillingness to look into bush's crimes, neglects and lies prevents us from moving forward.

4. This IS forward. Find out what went wrong so we can proceed into the future...
without more disasters of this kind.

I would imagine there were "spaces" of white, blank areas on the pages where the truly dangerous changes were made...they aren't dumb enough to put everything down in black and white...but there should be some indication of how many more violations we can expect. Will Alaska's pipeline be next? I doubt their easing of regulations were all for off-shore drilling. We are a curious people and we need to know.

If we don't look back, there may not be a tomorrow to look FORWARD to!

22. Remember who said "impeachment is off the table"
Edited on Fri Jun-18-10 11:49 PM by howaboutme
It wasn't Obama who took impeachment off the table, but it rightfully would have affected his actions had it been carried out.

Impeachment would have resulted in a no holds barred investigation into all aspects of the Bush White House from the secret energy policy, Enron, 9-11, to Iraq to the Attorney firings, and the results would have benefited the US people and carried over into the actions of every subsequent POTUS including Obama. But it was taken off the table.

When you figure how that deal worked out for Americans let us know.

9. I understand that, but I want to know the legal reasons why it can't be opened.
The FOA requests can't even be honored, can they?

Was it sealed for a period of years? 25, 50, 100, 200...after the demise of Cheney, which could be 400 years?

Since this meeting had nothing to do with national security, why was it locked away from the public? Cheney was being paid a salary by the citizens of the U.S. and he was working FOR us, not against us...well, at least in a perfect world...so I see no reason why the minutes to this meeting would have EVER been considered Top Secret. Isn't that why we seal things...to keep them secret for national security... not for the purpose of protecting the bottom line of corporations?

Maybe Liz has the answer.

Personally, I think it's time that file was opened.

23. We're not playing in the realm of the "Legal"
If we were, Gitmo would have been closed and our troops would be home right now.

And that disaster in the Gulf? Wouldn't have happened.

No, "legal" has been banned for some reason, and it's killing A LOT of people and natural areas.

8. The info that was released was most damning.
It showed our corporate overlords were going to get busy carving up Iraqi's oil patches for themselves.

13. Thanks for the link. Great article
Maybe we need to start requesting an answer from our government or the media...be the squeaky wheel for a while and see what happens. If I were living down south and depended on the ocean for my livelihood, I'd darned well be asking. Oil has run this country for too many years and it's time to drastically cut down our demand for oil, but let them know their heyday is over.

I'd rather walk than see our world destroyed barrel by barrel. Might do us all good.

11. Dick should have been nailed for obstructing justice back when he refused
to open those files in the first place. But then again, this was during the reign of Emperor Bush so no one thought that was too realistic.

through the launching of two aggressive wars for resources abroad, which are still in progress, and onwards to the concomitant and supporting war on our Constitutional rights and liberties, which is also still continuing and unstinting.

In other words, it's a matter of "National Security" - as that is defined by our rulers and their phony front men.

15. And there's so much more. What about those Reagan era documents that Bush had locked up?
By signing Executive Order 13233 just days before the documents were supposed to be released.

Maybe Obama can enlighten us on to why his predecessor had to sign an order demanding they stay sealed. Just maybe.

16. If I remember, it was speculated that was one reason GW was tapped to run
To hide documents and other info they didn't want exposed...if he won. We all know how that was managed.

If Obama wanted those files released he could do so today.

17. I doubt we'll see the records any time soon
WASHINGTON, DC June 25, 2004 (ENS)

The Supreme Court set aside a lower court ruling on Thursday that ordered Vice President Dick Cheney to hand over secret documents related to a White House energy task force. The ruling is only a partial victory for Cheney, as it sends the case back to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to reconsider the merits of the dispute.
But the ruling also means it is unlikely the White House will have to turn over the information on the membership of the controversial task force prior to the November election.

The case centers on an energy task force created by President George W. Bush shortly after he took office in January 2001.

26. What it takes
among the current leadership is a circular impossibility. It must be so bad they don't dare release it for fear of the damage(global economic crash, panic of all sorts). That could be the explanation for the big tent security blanket raised over just about everything these days, but of course the beauty of it is we'll never know know or have anyone among the usual suspects peachy keen with this veil willing to lift it for ANYTHING.
