Senator claims GOP follows Beck and Limbaugh, not science, on climate
By Ben Geman - 06/17/10 01:57 PM ET

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Thursday that strong global warming legislation lacks 60 votes and claimed Republicans are paying attention to conservative media pundits rather than climate science.

"It is absolutely incredible and very, very sad — and I say this not from a political point of view — that a lot of very bright Republicans no longer pay attention to science and are much more interested in the rhetoric of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck," he said.

Sanders spoke with reporters in the Capitol on his way to a meeting of the Senate Democratic caucus on energy and climate.

The meeting comes as Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is trying to craft an energy package to be brought to the floor this summer.

Sanders said that with "virtually" no Republican support, every Democrat would have to support a climate plan.

"Do I think we have 60 votes to come up with strong global warming legislation? No," Sanders said. "I think it is a tragedy, but that's the way it is."

1. the are not "interested" in what Beck and Limbaugh say - they are terrified to disagree with them.
GOP and the truth (as well as science!) just don't mix.

2. They're also invested in doing the opposite of what the Dems
think is best, even if it's the best thing to do.

I don't get why people can't see through them.

4. on the other hand it's funny when they forget they are in public
and claim things they normally do when on those "safe" shows. Like in a congressional hearing apologize to BP. The more powerful the RW media has become and the more RW get elected that grew up on that crap, basically the more exposed they've become. It was ok when it was just on Faux and Rush but now its in their convention speeches and is basically the content of this year election campaign. Good luck GOP.

5. I hope you're right.
I really hope 2010 is the final death blow for the GOP. They've continued to destroy American politics since Raygun was elected. Since then everything has gone absolutely to shit. I think the public is finally waking up to what a joke the party is, especially the lunatic fringe, AKA the teabaggers.

6. they follow beck and limbaugh on EVERYTHING
at least in my family. i have no idea how to even argue against what they are saying because a) i don't listen to the crap and b) it's really just so insane i'm speachless.
my dad thinks obama is a secret muslim that has a secret plan in action to take over america and turn it into a muslim country (yeah, try to get american women to wear a burka) and that obama is going to take ALL our rights away (i thought the patriot act took quite a few, but i guess that's okay). he said more but he was red and shaking and kinda unintelligible at this point. it makes me soooo pissed off that these people can effect my dad this way and terrify him and make him that upset about total lies. i thought he was going to stroke out. with his blood pressure he doesn't need to get this upset EVER.
meanwhile these religious shows my grandmother watches tell her there is no global warming. she admits there is a problem with pollution but it's only because the world is full of sin. if everyone stopped sinning, the earth would heal itself. so i asked her if everyone stopped sinning but still kept driving cars and drilling oil wells, if pollution would go away. she got quiet for awhile and seemed to actually think about the issue for the first time ever. it's horrible that people are so blindly believing that they don't even think about what is being said but just spit it back out.
it's also sickening that many people (my loved ones especially) believe this and live in fear and anger. sorry to rant, but seeing my dad so apoplectically upset just really really pissed me off.
