'People are calling for his head'
Edited on Thu Jun-17-10 12:19 PM by one_voice
Republicans, particularly Gulf state lawmakers, are furious at Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) and may ask him to cede his job as top Republican on the Energy and Commerce Committee in the wake of his apology to BP Thursday.

"People are calling for his head," said a GOP member of the committee.

Talk on the House floor at a Thursday morning vote centered on the potential fallout of Barton's apology to BP and his comment that the White House had conducted a "shakedown" of BP for a $20 billion escrow fund for the Gulf cleanup. Some Republicans are calling for him to lose his status on the committee, according to a GOP lawmaker who requested anonymity.

"It's fair to say there were some people who were very upset," added a GOP leadership aide.

Fellow Texas Rep. Pete Sessions declined to address whether Barton should step down.

I think they should make him go down for the next 4 months and help clean up the mess. I think he should have to pay restitution to people that have lost jobs, since he thinks BP is being treated unfairly. I think they should play his comments on a loop non stop to the people living through this nightmare.

And doing all this still wouldn't be enough for that pig. :grr:

look at the GOP politicians, running away from Barton like a sea turtle escaping an oil plume.

i suppose we should be grateful that there's a limit to their corporate toadying.

6. Isn't It Amusing...
to see the Republicans having to turn on one of their own. In any other situation, they would be right there with Barton but not this time...this is too serious and they realize they can't play the game in the same way. I would imagine most of them would like to do just what Barton did; support a corporation, regardless of its disregard for humanity and the planet.

Must be killing them to distance themselves from Barton's comments. Bastards.

7. Im more than a little suspicious
I could see our party reacting almost immediately to his stupid apology, but when the GOP is reacting nearly as fast theres something else going on here.

Its almost like Barton has a lot of enemies in his own party who couldnt wait to have a reason to condemn him.

He must be a real sweetheart!

22. They were imagining all the ads this November.
If it were politically tenable, they would have supported him.

He has just issued a second apology and retracted his apology to BP.

23. Barton just clumsily exposed the long held Republican Prime Directive of corporate supremacy
Edited on Thu Jun-17-10 03:40 PM by Uncle Joe
over "We the People's" government and in turn the American people to the political sun and this is what they're truly pissed about.

Barton climbed the summit of corporate supremacy and planted the Republican Flag, most Republicans in power would prefer for that to remain an open secret so they can drive pick up trucks during election season and pretend to actually give a rat's ass about the people.

Thanks for the thread, one_voice.

25. Barton just said what all those republicans are thinking
but don't dare say out loud. At least he had the guts to be honest, the GOP doesn't give a fig for the environment or people, business and profits is all that matters to them.
