They have the exact same bullshit ass containment and recovery plan.

Tomorrow it could be Shell or Exxon. BP seems especially irresponsible but they all are capable of this even with the best effort to play it by the numbers. All things made by man are subject to failure so being ready to cope with screwed pooches is paramount in risky ventures or at least being able to suck it up.

You can bet a few willing people that know the risks. That's a test pilot, a fireman, a soldier, an astronaut, a cop, or a race car driver but you can't be betting oceans and species on a few hours fuel.
