I live on a little marshy finger of a lake
Not in the Gulf, but on the East Coast. It is very shallow water that can get higher depending on rainfall. There are ducks and geese and turtles that walk up the hill from the water and hang around in the yard sometimes. There are herons and egrets and I live not too far from a bald eagle nesting area so every once in a while one of them shows up too. There are fish, not sure exactly what they are, but they seem to be quite plentiful. My grandfather used to stand on the bank all day long with his fishing line and catch strings of them which ended up being eaten by the cats. There are also racoons, opposums, and the rare fox.

I can't imagine sitting on my deck and knowing that soon all of that will be gone. That an acrid smell of gasoline would wash over my backyard and that the birds would disappear and that the turtles and fish would die. I would want to go out now and scoop them up and try to relocate them. Or run out and tell them to Scram! and try find a better place before it's too late.

I feel so much for all the people and the animals everywhere who are seeing their own little secret nooks in the universe disappear.

It's about a lot of things, but the very last thing this spill is about is money.

3. It's Like The BP "Apology"
Can they apologize to the wildlife dieing every day or to the future wildlife that will never be born. Can they apologize to their nesting areas, their turf, their offspring that will have little future to survive. Can they apologize to the many beaches, lakes and tributaries that will be in ruins for a long time. It took hundreds of years for those areas to become what they are but one explosion can ruin it all. Can they also apologize to the nature lovers out there that will have fewer places to go and see wildlife or to just swim or frolic on a beach. Can they apologize enough to all those who have and will lose their livelihood through fishing, condos, tourism, etc. Can they apologize for the unknown damage that will be done to the Gulf and surrounding areas for decades? Do they truly grasp the situation and do they really care?
