in our nation's history deserves to be recognized as such.

I wish he'd announced a govt-sponsored fund dedicated to saving wildlife that we could contribute to or raise money for.

1. Had he done so.... (and I agree that it would be good to do)

he would have been excoriated by those who believe it is "humans" or "animals" (i.e., those who think doing anything or even mentioning the wildlife as a priority, takes priority away from those suffering loss of jobs and way of life. You, know, we see that here every time we express outrage about animal abuse--someone always steps in to post how child abuse ought to be our focus, as though we can't be simultaneously concerned about both.

But, frankly, I don't think Obama could win for losing last night--no matter what he said.

2. Yes, but I wish he'd established a fund to contribute to. People want to help and are not being
asked to do so.

Make EVERYONE an active participant in helping this crisis.

3. I think people from all over the world would contribute.
I wish there was a fund also.

4. Yes. It would get kids involved. People want to help and would feel better doing so -
they'd feel better about the effects, about themselves and about the president.

This isn't far off from President Bush asking United Statesians to go shopping after Sept. 11th when they wanted to do so much more.

5. I'm from Canada and the news we're getting of it up here is devastating.
Just thinking of all the damage it may do worldwide is also scary. How far will it drift, how much will it affect migrating species ... I have no idea. You're so right about the kids, helping out would also get them thinking about environmental responsibilty they may not consider otherwise. Let people help if they can.
