It was a tremendous disappointment. I can hardly believe anyone in the WH thought THAT was a fitting use of a prime-time address from the Oval Office.

11. I don't think they have the faintest idea what to do about this. I'm not
sure anybody does. This is a picture of a President made impotent by what nature has unleashed thanks to a greedy corporation. There is no good, quick answer to the oil catastrophie. All there is to talk about is cleaning up and compensating the victems and trying to move foreward. This is an impossible position to be in. It would be as if 9/11 went on, over and over again, day after day and couldn't be stopped. Miserable, just miserable. And, as we all know, lazy Americans don't want to change their ways, they just want a quick fix.

15. Are Americans lazy? They work more than any other first world nation.

Blaming Americans for our government being in bed with big oil is just too easy and it has nothing to do with the reality that we live in an oligarchy. We could all be out there with Schwinns and our government would STILL be exchanging long deep kisses with BP and the rest of them.

20. when are we going to learn how to cheerlead like the repubs!
they would have been out declaring what a great speech it was if the speaker had been dubya. perception is everything. the repubs know how to frame the discussion. dems know how to shoot ourselves in our collective feet. it's one thing for us to do that here but the few non-right opinion broadcasters should show some solidarity. we're never going to bring anyone over to our side if we keep beating ourselves up. it does no good to have more integrity if we have no seat at the table.

imo, this is why we keep losing the debate.

23. You make a valid point.
In addition, I'd like to see some liberal billionaires open up liberal TV networks to compete with Murdoch's Fox. That would help. We don't have much of a seat at the media table because the other side owns the table.

24. Oh, you'll find plenty of cheerleaders towing the partyline on DU for Goldman Sachs, the Wars, Gitmo
DOMA, UNION-BUSTING--anything Obama does is supported by some. The problem is he does the same crap Republicans do. The reason why "we" keep "losing the debate" is because "we" have no ideas, no political will, and "we" serve the same masters as the Republicans.

Yeah, that's a so much better idea. That way we can stay out of power for long periods of time, and piss and moan to each other that we never get a break.

37. Having the power just for the sake of having the power is less than inspiring.
I would prefer to see us use the power when we have it to promote better policies for average people and not so much for maintaining the hold the wealthy corporate interests have on us.

27. We need to learn how to play our hands quite a bit closer to our chests.
That doesn't require dishonesty, just a clear sense of what we have, what we want, and the many possible ways of getting where we want to go.

38. i didn't say anything about mindless drones. just that we
should be supporting our lawmakers whenever possible. dumping on this speech is unnecessary . . . especially since most of the media will be doing a swell job without the 'liberal msm'. accentuating the positive and not the negative could go a long way to getting our policies enacted. independents see our circular firing squad and want nothing to do with us. i'm not saying to condone everything done. i AM saying pick your fights.

and give the poor guy enough time to undo the mess of the last 30 or so years. it's bad enough the other side hollers before it's hurt. do we have to do that too?

i gave bushco 4 years to convince me. i will give president obama no less.

And, obviously I disagree with KO and Maddow and the majority of the MSNBC team who are obviously concerned about appearing to pro-Obama.

why the hell should they be disappointed? After all these disappointments, why do they still expect not to be?

By now they should expect not to get what they want.

But don't let facts get in the way of your condemnation. The oil gush isn't fixable this very instant by anyone on this planet. Let's hope the solution is being worked on right now by the people Obama has brought together.
