1. Why is everyone surprised at this?

4. Surprised? No.
If anything, I am surprised any of these clowns involved with the effort think they have ANY credibility left.

I hold Thad Allen and Ken Salazar just above Tony Hayward on the credibility/honesty scale failure. At least he has an "excuse". Whats theirs?

2. I've believed it's in the 70,000 barrels a day range since week two.
And I still think so.

Roughly almost a barrel a second, a barrel being 42 gallons.

5. That was second. The first one was that there was no leak at all,
just tanks from the rig.

6. They're pulling numbers out of Hayward's ass.
They have no fricking idea what they're doing.

7. Each barrel is 9,702 cubic inches.
It's a cube about 21 inches on a side, the size of box a 17" computer CRT might come in.

So it's dumping between 7,278 and 12,477 cubic yards of crude per day.

A 2,000 square food home with 8-foot ceilings is 593 cubic yards.

So it's dumping enough oil to fill up between 12.27 and 21.04 average-size homes per day.

Somewhere between 12 and 21 houses per day. That's a fuckload of oil.

8. Thank you for adding that visual.
I was having trouble trying to envision how much volume this amounts to.

Wow.
