British Airways apologizes for Bin Laden boarding pass

LONDON (AP) — British Airways has apologized for a picture in a company magazine that showed a boarding pass in the name of Osama bin Laden.

The company said Thursday that the image of the fake boarding pass appeared in LHR News, a biweekly publication for British Airways employees at London Heathrow airport.

"A mistake was made and we are working to find out how this occurred. Apologies for the error," British Airways said in Twitter messages replying to Tweeters who raised the issue.

British Airways was embroiled in fresh controversy yesterday after an in-house magazine promoted an iPhone boarding pass service showing a ticket belonging to Osama Bin Laden.

The sample ticket included Bin Laden's frequent flyer number, suggesting he is a regular passenger with the airline.

LHR News - a staff magazine covering Heathrow Airport - carried the image on its front page.

And when you figure in Arabic-speaking people worldwide, that name and its spelling variations could go into several hundred thousands. if I recall right, there's some dude in a Fatah leadership position who's named Saddam Husayn, for instance.
