Family Counts Cards Sent To Boy, 7, Thanks Community

WEST JEFFERSON, Ohio — After the story of a 7-year-old's battle with a terminal illness -- and one of his last requests -- reached around the world, his family received an overwhelming outpouring of support.

Volunteers, friends and family were ready to count on Saturday, in memory of a little boy who lost his battle with a brain tumor in February, 10TV's Glenn McEntyre reported.

From the time Nathan Elfrink was 20-months-old, he battled an aggressive tumor.

Christmas 2009 would be his last. His simple wish, posted on a Web site, received international attention.

"Nathan loves Christmas cards, and wanted to get some Christmas cards," said Elfrink's mother Dode McVey. "So I said 'When mommy updates your care page, I'll put on there for everyone that knows you and loves you to send a Christmas card."
....

More than 3,000 cards were delivered in a single day.

...

After hours of counting, the grand total was announced. Elfrink had received 246,104 cards, McEntyre reported.
